Home defense Load
What do you consider the best load for in home 12 gauge.
I do not want to take down walls or necessarily dismember the bad guy.
Just good old fashion self defense!

i'm not big on alternating types of ammo, I'm with the school of thought you keep 1 load in your shotgun otherwise when you think the next one is a slug or buck it might be the other and that could be not so good... I like loding it up with buckshot, I like 00, and if you want slug put them on your sidesaddle or butstock shell caddie.
now at my dept we've gone to all slug and no buck for our duty loads in out boomsticks, so basically we have a 12 guage rifle..... ( i do work in a rural area so longer shots are more likely)

Seems like everyone so far, likes 00 buck shot or slug.
It was my understanding that 00 in a small area would take out most of the wall board.
I'm not a shotgun person so I have no knowledge on the subject. I do know that at the range, the other day, when I went to test fire my new Mossy 20in Persuader, it destroyed a one gallon milk jug at 25 yards with one round.
If I have to use this thing it will probably be within 25 feet!
At that distance I would think the wadding would almost do the job

At most home defence ranges your shot will not spread much at all... with in 7 yards you are looking at a shot group about the size of your fist. the idea behind 00 buck is you get 9 .33" balls with each trigger pull. no one can shoot 9 pistol rounds with one shot. after hitting the target the shot spreads out, like fireworks, causing massive damage to whatever it hits. regular old foster type slugs (like remmington Slugger, federal truball, etc) will actually break up in the target and most likely will not over penetrate. both leave a wicked nasty wound cavity.
Bird shot is a very bad choice as it does not have the kinetic energy to penetrate very deeply. those little pellets just don't cut the mustard. great on birds not so much on dangerous game (like doped up home invader types).

both of these links to video playlists will give you alot of info to make an informed choice on your HD load for your new Mossy.
