Range Box for Multiple Carry

Anyone have any ideas (or plans) for a utilitarian range box that could hold about 12 assorted MKs? I would like to build (or buy if I HAVE to) a box with double sided storage capability with form fitted cutouts for about a dozen different MKs. I was playing around in the garage with a few ideas, but nothing struck me as a great layout.
I have an indestructible double sided tool case that could be fitted with foam, get cut outs for the guns, then fitted with cloth. Each side opens independently so I would not have issues with weapons falling out and such. Might try that out first just to see if my ideas hold water.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Nothing besides the guns needs to be carried in this container if that helps.

I'm not going to be any help to your goal... but ...
a "custom" tray to hold 2-3-4 pistols can have them
"ready to select"... I'd begin to have concern for a larger tray,
or a matrix-of-slots... that would/could hold each pistol "snug"
to avoid/minimize blue-wear or nicks...
I'd probably be lazy and get a set of zippered-rug-cases and
devise a means of lining them up... perhaps with the end-edge
"removed/open" to permit selecting a specific pistol...
The Rug-Case would have an all-around 'protection' for each pistol.
with a dozen pistols, you almost need a "carrousel",
just punch in a code on the keypad and it will rotate
to the desired slot... just like at the DryCleaner's

When I figure this one out, I will post pictures of the result.

I use a Pelican case to move six 1911's around. They have to be service pistols with iron sights to fit. The pelican cases are 6" deep and can hold six side by side. You stand them up in foam vice laying them on their sides like the way these pistols are normally boxed.
Or you could build a box based on a design like this one -

That is certainly something to think about.
Thanks Bullseye!

Bullseye's would be a great one to copy. I'd try to find a partial sheet of 5 ply used in flooring for the partitions. The stuff's pricey!!!! Then cover the plywd with flannel or felt held down by spray adhesive.

Now that would absolutely help one build a box, nice find.

I have one that holds four. It has a drawer to store parts. The lid
opens up and snaps open. Scope will mount in the lid when it's open.
Don't use it. Like the padded cases better. It's just big and awkward
to carry. Long gone friend and shooting pal gave it to me.
