Gang, do any of you know anything about these German rifles? I just purchased one and there´s very limmited info on the net about them. It´s an open bolt 22 with a very limmited number imported into the States because of this particular detail...

Here´s the three rifles I purchased last night.


The first two are Mossbergs while the third is the KDF. Upper Mossberg is a 44US (a) with original scope ans cope mount, while the semi-auto below it is a 152 with a drop down forearm.

I've had an old Mossberg 44US since the early 60's. Never gave it much thought and have never fired it..When I saw the posts on the other thread, it sparked my interest..
I dug around and fond the gun still in fair condition.. There is some surface rust and the stock is in bad shape.
I've decided to try to restore it.
I found a stock advertised at Chestnut Ridge Supply. It was listed as being in good condition so I bought.it.
It arrived today... It has a large 30 stenciled in white paint on one side and a very rusty butt plate... Not sure that is good condition, but I think between the two I will come up with something.

Bud, you know you can refurbish the stock and buttplate to in "as new condition" right? If you need help drop me a line and I´ll be glad to share my ways with you.

Well guys, after refinishing this latest batch of rifles I’ve found that the German KDS shot wonderfully, and is very accurate and comfortable/sweet shooting. I especially like its open bolt configuration. The M44 US (b) was true to form, a tack driver! The Mossberg 152 semi auto on the other hand has been a bit problematic. When I first tried to fire it didn't go bang. So I took it apart and found a broken firing pin. So I ordered one and it finally went bang yesterday. But the aftermarket magazine I had to order, since it didn't come with its original, doesn't seem to feed the rounds properly. Some times it will feed a whole clip and some times it won't, and is especially problematic on the first round. After taking it apart and studying it I found that this magazine inserts smoothly into the receiver but it does have some vertical movement (up and down) if pulled/pushed and does not seems to lock into place properly as most stock mags do. I will call Havlin tomorrow but do any of you have any suggestions? The rifle is very accurate when it goes bang but the feeding inconsistency has me a bit miffed.

It took a while, but I got the old Mosberg 44US finished.

Would you believe that thing has been laying in my Attic etc since 1960???
Now I have to see if it will shoot!!!

In the attic for 48 years? Did you have to reblue it?

It should shoot very well as long as the barrel isn't damaged from any surface corrosion or pitting. How's it look down the tube?

There was some light surface rust on the outside but the inside looks clean as far as I can see. I have refinished the stock.

Looks nice. I can't wait to hear how it shoots.

You did a good job on the birch stock!

Make sure the rifling's nice and clean before you shoot it, wouldn't hurt to run a few oiled patches through it. You'll be surprised as to how sweet and accurate these rifles can shoot.

The KDF after refinishing its stock. This German is quickly becoming my favorite semi-auto rifle in 22. Its open bolt firing schema is indeed very unique and has a very solid feel to it but its pleasant to shoot.

I have a 144US that I got at Camp Perry a few years ago...
it shoots great... but I've not done much with it
as it is SO HEAVY! and looong.

That really scary, clean, organized peg board really distracted me from seeing the two really good looking rifles. I'm going to go check the rules and see if that much organization is allowed.

Years ago at an auction at a Boy Scout camp, I bought an 144 for $30 and could have had as many as I wanted at that price. Decided that one was enough. Couldn't hit anything with it and stuck it in a closet glad that I didn't waste any more money on lousy rifles. A while back my son sent me a target with pretty good groups and a note saying the Mossberg shoots pretty well if the front sights aren't loose.

the most common problem I've noticed with my firearms...
is a "loose nut" behind the buttplate...
