223 and a 22.?
The other day I was at the range and a guy kept shooting 223. then he'd do something to his AR and it would shoot 22. but with the same barrel... is this dangerous? If not what brand can I get of the AR to shoot 22.? Its alot cheaper to target shoot
AMURICA **** YEAH!!
If he was swapping out the bolt carrier, then he was inserting a .22 LR chamber insert conversion kit. The diameter of the bullets are the same so using the conversion is not harmful to the barrel. The smaller sized shell is less expensive, but bulk 22 LR is somewhat harder to find these days.

I have the CMMG kit. Some fall off in accuracy but it works well. Simply a bolt replacement with a magazine.

You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

Any AR can take a .22 LR conversion kit, which consists of the chamber insert and a magazine set up for 22 LR. BAOM's is a dedicated 22 LR rifle and can not be swapped between the two calibers. The idea was to get quality trigger time with the AR model rifle at pistol ranges or pistol range distances and take advantage of the lesser costs for practice time. You can see some detailed pictures of a Colt Conversion Kit at this link http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html? ... 5&t=265968 I bought one of these kits way back in the late 80's to practice service rifle position shooting at an indoor pistol range.
