My Henry Fontier

Several weeks ago I meet a guy out at the range that had won a Henry H001 at a Friends of the NRA dinner. He let me shoot it. I was hooked.
I started to do my research and decided that I wanted the Frontier model, with a Marble Tang sight. At the local Sportsman Warehouse it was $359. The tang sight was around $136, well that was going to be around $500 and I did not really want to spend that much. I looked on Gunbroker and found this one with 200 rounds threw it with a scope and Tang sight new front sight and new rear sight. All for a buy it now price of $289. I debated for about 5 minutes. SOLD.
Yesterday I took it out to the range for the first time. It is a shooter. I had a lot of fun with it. About a year and a half ago I found out that I am left eye dominate and right handed. Not a big problem when shooting pistols but rifle shooting that does pose a problem. So now I switched to shooting left handed with it. It dose fell awkward, but even so I shoot well enough with it and know that with time and practice it will only get better.
Today I am going to take off the scope and start using the tang sight. and see how that goes.

I want to put a tang sight on my Henry in .45LC

That price is about what a Marbles was going for last time I checked. I'd need someone to put it on for me tho, I couldn't bring myself to do the necessary D&T, I'm just not that good at it.

Any chance of a closeup of that tang?

Is that Henry IX? The keepers of the Henry Lineage and honors need to chime in.

The only thing I can say negative about my Henry is why did it take so dang long to buy one. Enjoy

Good looking setup there.
I got a Williams aperture sight with a dovetail base for my Henry 22. and I really like that. (old eyes) It's adjustable for both windage and elevation. [Williams Gun Sight Co. #WGKS-54] Sometimes I put a Redfield 3-9 scope on it too. Depends on my mood for the day.
I got a Lyman tang sight for my Marlin 1894 45/70 and like that too.
I just discovered recently also that Williams has a whole lot of used guns for sale and the prices seem pretty good as compared to other places I've looked.

It just doesn't get any better!!! Nice score for certain. HENRY is the one gun that always gets to go to the range, and always never fails to put a smile on my face. Regards

Downeaster, here is a close up of the Marble Tang sight.

I went to the range again yesterday and shoot with just the Tang. It will take more practice to get good with it then the scope. I shot ok with the targets at fifty yards, but the silhouettes at fifty yards were really hard for me to see. I could see the front sight good, but the silhouettes were really just a blur.

Yes they are pricey, that is why it was nice that mine already had it installed.

Check this sight (site). Almost the same sight a the other, but much less expensive. I have one on my 45-70 and really like it.
The base can be pretty easily contoured to fit most tangs, depending on style.
