Was just wondering if there is any reason that the trigger plunger spring on the MkIII cannot be shortened slightly (1/4-1/2 coil?) in order to take a few ounces off the trigger pull? I do realize that the trigger must be returned to the full forward position in order that the sear will be reset. Seems like that spring shortening might be an easy way to lighten the trigger pull slightly.

You've got to be careful about shortening that return spring or the disconnector lever will not reset properly.

Also, when shortening a spring by cutting coils it increases the spring rate, making it stiffer.

Cutting the spring will not increaswe the rate, the rate is controlled by the diameter of the wire and the angle of the wind of the coils. Shortening the spring will only decrease the pre load at the lenfth it is normalllly set.

I did remove 1 coil from that spring. The disconnecter bar/sear seemed to reset just fine when the the bolt was operated manually and dry fired a few times. I will take it to the range tomorrow for a live fire test. I do now have a crisp, creep free, 2-2 1/4 lb. trigger pull with minimal pre-travel and no over-travel which is just right for me. I did also have to change from the red to the green "High Viz" front sight insert for me to see it very well. Hoping that it shoots as good as it looks.

Put 200 rounds through the pistol today with no malfunctions. The shortened plunger spring worked just fine. I did enjoy the 2 lb. crisp trigger. I do wish I could have shot better with these old eyes.

I shot the MK III Hunter side by side with my old Belgian Browning Challenger. I did better using the square notch Patridge sights on the Browning than with the "High Viz" sights on the MK III Hunter.

Seems hard to align that shallow V rear blade accurately when looking through bifocals. Of course I
can always order Target sights from Ruger at not too great an expense. I wondered if anyone else has had to do that?

You can get a rear site notched blade for your rear site assembly. I ordered from Numrich and ordered the part for a Mark II target gun with a bull barrel. No such parts listed for a MKIII.
I got a new post on here about it and the apeture site I ordered. I got free shipping on both orders by calling their phone line first (on their website toll free.....held on for someone and they gave me a coupon # to use for free shipping if I ordered online !!! How good can it get...the notch blade was $1.82. You gotta use Bulleye's page to see how to install.

Thanks kc for that info. I do seem to remember seeing that post. Did you actually shoot it with that notch (Patridge) rear sight blade with the "High Viz" front sight? How did that work out. I can just order that Mk III target notch rear sight blade from Ruger (I think) for just a few bucks. I'm just used to seeing daylight on both sides of that front sight I guess, and I can't do that with the shallow V rear blade. Now that you mention it, I probably won't even need that new front sight. I'm having lots of fun with this new Ruger Mk III Hunter though.

The new notch I got works real good with the hi vis front site so far. Just shot a little this PM but did real good. I ordered me a regular front site for a bull barrel, but will keep it for a spare instead of installing it.
I think it's better than the original V rear blade. The red hi vis front really stands out good.

That red "High Viz" would stand out to any normal person. I'm red/green colorblind so the red doesn't look to me the way it looks to anyone else. The green insert I can see pretty well (it even seems bright). What I can't do very well is focus on the front sight and rear sight at the same time. I focus on the front sight and let the rear sight and the target go blurry. With the right target and sights, I can still shoot about fair (not like I used to) even with bifocal glasses. I will order that rear square notch blade. Again, thanks for the suggestion.
