About 8 months ago I ordered a VQ accurizing kit. I installed all the internals in the kit without a second thought.

Today I detail stripped my Hunter to deep clean it. After I finished and was in the process of putting it back together I decided I'd try the pistol with the VQ sear and Ruger factory hammer just to see what it felt like. I don't have a trigger weight thingy (don't know the technical term for it. I would like to get one, if someone has a recommendation let me know!), but after I dry fired the pistol with the Ruger hammer and VQ sear combo I noticed it felt a lot better. Felt like maybe a few ounces lighter and it also just feels better. So it looks like I may not have needed the VQ hammer after all

So has anyone else here noticed the same thing?

Don't think the VQ hammer is really needed, main difference is it is lighter than the stock hammer and should give you a shorter theoretical lock time. Have the VQ sear in all my guns and the trigger pull is = or- and ounce or so around the 2 pound mark, Triggers have the pre and overt ravel screw and seem to work just fine.

I have recommended that for years, both here and on MarkIII.org, all that was needed for a enhanced trigger in a Ruger 22 Auto is the sear and a trigger. The VQ accuracy kit contains many redundant parts, including the hammer, which is not necessary for a good lightweight trigger. The VQ accurizing kit costs ~$110 but the sear and trigger alone can be had for ~$45.

The only time I have recommended buying a VQ hammer is for those folks who've wanted to eliminate the Mark III magazine disconnect safety by replacing the OEM (MK3) hammer with a VQ Mark II hammer.

I shot one club member's ruger that had just replaced the sear, and another that did the vq sear and hammer before deciding whether to do the vq hammer on mine.

The one with the ruger hammer felt lighter, but the vq hammer felt crisper and the break came as a greater "surprise" to me. So I put in the vq hammer and sear this week. When I get access to a club members scale I'll post the results.

Just wanted to say to the original post, that the one flaw in your experiment is that you say you did a deep cleaning before putting back the ruger hammer. it could be that cleaning up the trigger plunger, and all that parts rubbing around the hammer/sear linkage may have cleaned up the feel of your pull as well. If you have a chance, put back the VQ hammer and see if it really is different.

Shortly after after I tried the Ruger hammer I put the VQ one back in to give it another try. I should have mentioned that.

I was told that all I would need to be tickled with the action improvements was a volq sear and a trigger. The Clark steel trigger was suggested to me.
