Is the grind down grip mod still the only game in town, or has somebody finally come out with another option?

I am thinking about just making my own target ergonomic grip with epoxy putty and just figuring out a way to keep it in place without destroying the grip....

The feller that referred me to this site "SDHandgunner" had one done up with the dremel method...
Me? I might just duct tape some "slab side" cardboard pieces to it...

i may actually consider duct tape to mask the frame as i apply epoxy putty. i figure that way, if i sell the gun later or change my mind, i can simply break off the putty to get back to the original frame.

it is my understanding that this is more or less what olympic shooters do with a wood grip and wood putty, so i figure what's the worst that can happen?

I saw one on Rimfire.com that had been stippled with a pointed soldering iron. Looked like it added a lot of grip. Just a thought.

For now I found a pachmyer #3 fits and does the job. I am going to investigate the possibility of doing the grip mod for harrett target grips or something similar.

I didn't like the grind-down on a new gun so I made some grips from walnut to go over the factory. Procedure and pictures can be found here: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/sh ... ost1873463

This is non-destructive and convertible back to original if desired.

Interesting idea for solving a problem. I'd have drilled holes through the grips for easing removal of the hammer and sear pivot pins. You never know when you might have to detail strip the pistol and if you did then you'd have to separate the grips from the frame by breaking the sealant.

Looked like an interesting way modify the grips. I like the idea of drilling holes for the pins.

On the 22/45, only the sear pin is under the grip; hope I don't have to remove it.
The spray-on adhesive softens with high heat. The grips could be removed by heating them up with a heat gun, and replaced again.

I went back and looked again and I see that you've set the top of your grips below the hammer pivot pin. I should have looked closer at that the first time. I have seen some that use full length 1911 grips and those cover up the hammer pivot pin. Drilling access holes for the sear pivot pin is easy to accomplish and would eliminate any reason later to remove the grips.

thanks for posting this interesting approach. i have been considering something similar, but using a plastic epoxy instead of wood. the idea of using an adhesive may be the missing piece i need...
