VQ makes a larger slide release. I have afew and they work pretty good for me. I haven't run across a no smithing mag release extension for the MKIII yet though.

There isn't a production extended magazine release out on the market that I know of at this time. Perhaps some one will introduce one in the future. I have heard of several people interested in finding this part in an extended version. Until then the only option is to modify a production one.

There's no reason to add an extended slide release as the Ruger Mark Series pistols are not designed to charge the pistol by manually tripping the release lever. If the release is used, the bolt will quickly wear and round off the bolt stop, preventing the bolt from automatically locking rearward after the last shot is expended. To slingshot the bolt is the recommended method for charging a Ruger 22 Auto pistol. Just grasp the bolt, pull rearward and release, the bolt stop will automatically drop out of the way in a metal framed Mark pistol. If you have a 22/45, you can simply remove the detent ball from the slide release and then it will operate just like the metal framed Marks do.

Hope this helps.

I have large hand and I still couldn't reach the mag release. I got a 1911 mag release extension and a drill and taps from Brownell's and did it myself. It is fine now.

DO YOU REMEMBER THE PART NUMBERS BY ANY CHANCE?

There's been a bunch of people asking about this type of modification - if you have a picture to post of yours, I'll bet they'd be thankful.

In Brownell's catalog, the button is an Ed Brown button, P/N 087-011-161AA, the 4x40 bottom tap is 395-440-003AA. Not sure what drill size. I think a No. 38.

That always looked like a good way to do it to me, either that or just drill and tap for a short t#6-32 socket head cap screw to get a little extension without unceasing the diameter. I shoot 22-45's and 1911's, the 22-45's seem to be fine but I did add the slightly extended but not larger diameter releases to my 1911's.

I got the mag release from Midway on your suggestion a while back. Since this photo was taken I have changed the grips to the Hogue rubber grips without the thumb rest.

Just hope the misses doesn't see that shot of your pistol sitting on one of her bathroom towels. Mine would not be pleased.

Nice mod!
