You have to remove the trigger assembly and disconnector lever first. It may be helpful to remove the hammer and magazine safety hook to simplify this removal/installation. This maintenance page may be of some help to you when disassembling or reassembling the 22/45

The spring that holds the trigger pivot pin in place also doubles as the magazine release retention device. The spring is pinned through the right side of the frame near where it holds the mag release secure. You remove the spring from the frame and the magazine release will slide out of the frame to the left.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. I am going to install an extended mag release button and thought it would be easier if release was removed for drilling and tapping.....Bigtime

I've drilled and tapped 3 MKIII mag release for extended release on steel frame MKIIIs.
The mag release is hardened steel. I had to drill and tap for a 4-40 screw.
I did it in a small lathe. Start off using a center drill.
When tapping because of the hardened steel it is very easy to twist off and break the tap so go slow and be careful.
Those mag releases are tough little buggers!!!!
Good luck!
