Will a MKIII 22/45 barrel receiver work on a MKII steel grip frame with a MKII bolt?

No and no. The 22/45 receiver is peened on the bottom of the front lug and usually will not fit on a metal frame. A Mark II bolt will not work in a Mark III receiver with the LCI installed. If the LCI parts are removed then the bolt will work just fine. The Mark III has a slot cut into the face to facilitate the LCI lever.

Thanks ,

I guess I'll modify the receiver and make it fit.

Straight up slide into place fit, I agree with Bullseye, No and No. That being said, I dremeled an old MKII bolt to be useable with an MKIII receiver with the LCI in place. It really wasn't that bad, and I like the wider ears on the MKII bolts anyways. As for the receiver to the metal framed lower, I have also done that, with a 22/45 512 upper onto an MKII lower. Again with the dremel, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone that wants to use the receiver on a 22/45 again. Unlike the bolt, which can now be used on MKII's or MKIII's, the receiver is now a MKII or MKIII only and would require even more tongue twisting to get it to work well on a 22/45 again. It would probably mate up ok, but would no doubt have a good bit of side to side play now. Neither of these mods is very quick or easy, or reversable. FWIW

I bought a new unfired MKIII 22/45 5.5" blue bull barrel/receiver only to install on a MKII frame, I do not and probably never will own a 22/45 so I'll just use the old dremel and fit it up.

Could I dremel off the inside of the LCI and then put it back in the receiver? would that work??

I haven't tried that route yet. I think that one of the members over at MKIII.org did something like that and ended up having to "affix" the LCI into place with some sort of adhesive. Kinda a "ban-aid" if you ask me. I'll see if I can't get you a photo of the groove in the MKIII bolt, along with a pick of a stock bolt and the one that I modded.

Thanks, I would really appreciate that.

Will your modified bolt still work in a MKII?

Hopefully this will help.

Sorry, but when you asked your original question you didn't ask if a 22/45 receiver could be modified to work on a metal Mark III frame. I assumed that you were asking about typical frames fitting. One can be modified to fit and if the bolt is cut with a slot to work in a Mark III, it will still work in a Mark II. I've even had some 22/45 receivers fit directly onto metal frames without fitting but that is a rare occurrence.

Here is one that I did, I overcut a few fractions of an inch, but it works fine. Took a few minutes to do, but now it is a good multipurpose bolt, ready for any receiver I want to use it in.

Thanks that is what I needed to know.
I just bought a new MKIII 22/45 bare receiver and barrel from a guy and it should be here next week.

I plan on putting it on my MKII metal frame.
