First, thanks for all the help provided in the other thread I started a few weeks back. I really appreciate all the advice you guys gave me.

No advice other than pick up plenty of ammo because you're going to love shooting that sucker!

I go through several hundred rounds every time I go. And I'm going again tomorrow also!

congratulations, enjoy the h*ll out of it!!

1. I carry Hoppe's #9 PowderSolvent, GunOil & GunGrease
with some Qtips, toothpicks and a few paper ShopTowels(tm).
2. the Qtip will clean around the chamber and muzzle -AND-
into the barrel from each end and if any of the bore is missed
it probably wasn't dirty in the middle anyway...
3. Do a FieldStrip (detailed instructions are posted here somewhere) !
drip some GunOil where stuff moves and rubs.
I apply a little GunGrease along the bolt and inside the receiver
to help the metal-upon-metal surfaces for the first few bricks.

The sales guy told me: "This things are tough to field strip. If you can't get it back together, bring it here and we'll help you out. We've got one guy here who knows how to do it. I don't."

I will hopefully get out this weekend. I can't wait!

Tonight, I'll read over the instructions. I'm sure I'll also take a good close look at the instructions Bullseye has posted on this site.

No, the Ruger is NOT 'hard to field strip'...
but, that said, I've messed up a few times,
I just call it "experience".

BullsEye's info is supurb, read it thru a few times
and follow it carefully, as it has been tested/revised
with questions from other First-Timers...

My $0.22 worth is to say:
1. the MK3 has to Insert an Empty-Mag during the process
to release/move the Mag-Safety... pay attention to In/Out...
2. the thing that seems to evade some folks is to 'be aware' of
the position of the Hammer-Strut when inserting the MainSpring.
I first 'saw the light' when I removed my barrel and with it set-aside,
inserted the mainspring to be able to examine the Hammer Position
and the strut... while I was maneuvering the grip... and voila!!
I realized that I needed to have it "dangling" vertical to accept the
mainspring and the strut inserts itself into the spring-CUP...
(( I'm not trying to confuse... just emphasize... ))

Pay particular attention to my 22/45 maintenance page - all the info you need is right there on the one page. As always I'm here to offer any assistance you'll need to get familiar with that fine new pistol.

Bullseye's Field Stripping instructions are written well enough so that even I could understand them. Follow them and you shouldn't have any problems.

Toyj40 is wrong. According to the code you don't have to start thinking about the next one until you have field stripped, cleaned and fired the pistol. That is, unless you are trying to qualify for advanced addict status.

Plan to go through several types of ammo to find the ones that work best with the pistol. You made a good choice. The only thing you need to do is take it out and enjoy it.

I'm scrambling to find a place to go this weekend. I think there are a few public places in CT and I can plunk down a few $ and spend an hour or two testing this out.

I've looked through the proceedures here on this page...and plan on studying them again today. That way, when I do pull things apart, I'll know what I'm doing.

I'm somewhat of a pistol "newb". I've shot before when I was younger, but my father always took care of the pistols. Do I have to do anything to this before firing? A cleaning? Oiling?

well... it's "rare", but cost-containment causes QA/QC to be downgraded
and there are times when a firearm has some "problem" that can be
found with a simple field-strip, Inspect, clean and lube-job...
Firing the MK3 may not teach you much about Field-Stripping it...
but... Field-Stripping it is likely to teach you some things about Firing it...

IMHO: the CCI-MiniMag cartridge is a 'go-to' .22LR...
have some on-hand as a comparison, if all functions well with Mini-Mags
then other feed/firing troubles are more likely ammo-related.

Also, a Cheep-Tool(tm) for your MK3-range-bag... "Nylon Cable Tie"

the 'head' will serve to grasp the MainSpring-Latch and allow you to
pull it out to release... no screwdriver/knife scratches on your latch
or broken finger-nails...
Be aware that some MKs barrel/receiver will be a snug-fit to the grip,
and may require a (leather/plastic/dead-blow) mallet to Remove/ReFit,
while others will simply come apart.

I have and ATV, so I always have spare cable ties laying around. You never know when you might need them on the trail.

I found a public range near my house I'd like to visit this weekend.

I'll see if I can work up the courage to field strip this thing before that time.

Good call in the CCI's. I'll grab a small box of those while I'm at Wal-Mart.

It's generally better to field strip the pistol, clean the packing oil and grease and do a light lube before shooting it. Have no fear on field stripping and cleaning if your workbench is in front of the computer and you use Bullseye's maintenance page.

Just noticed your location. Nice area. I worked for a chemical company that had a plant in Wallingford. Enjoyed the trips there.

I'll see if I can muster up the courage to take it apart before I hit the range.

It is a nice area. CT is expensive as you know what, but it's a nice place to live. Wallingford is a great part of the state because it's fairly central. It seems like just about everything is less than an hour from here.
