Single Six

Post by neophyte » Mon Sep 17, 2007 4:05 pm

Hey Folks: My single six is having a problem.
I recently purchased a 1991 model brought it home; scrubbed, Hoppes, soap and water, re-Hoppe's Used Chore Boy on cylinder, barrel, Hoppe's, oiled as needed.
It was cleaned :)
Carried to first shoot. Shoots okay: Start having trouble? with ejection of spent cartridge. Approx. 150 rds.
Came home: did the cleaning deal again with more emphasis on cylinder; spotless again. Used a complete shell casing, and cleaned until shell would drop out with it's own weight.
Go to second shoot: Shoots okay: Start having trouble ejection again.
Maybe 150 rds. Was shooting other stuff too.
Ammo: Remington 550 count 36grn nothing special.
Give me some ideas.
My thought: NASTY AMMO
Open for suggestions.

Thanks in advanced
Craig

Welcome neophyte,

I'll defer to some of the handgun knowledge here for your specific dilemma. However, I'm not a cult of one when it comes to major criticisms of Remington rimfire ammo.
It's inconsistent and extremely dirty. I stay away from it in my 1022's and my handguns.

Could be a little bit of lubing/wax from the ammo being the root of the issue. I too try not to shoot that brand.

I've had that problem with RGB's. Heck, on some the cases seemed to swell enough that it took a lot of effort to get them out. I shoot mostly federal and cci ammo in my single six. Don't seem to have any problems.

I think you are right. Remington of whatever flavor has a bad reputation at my range. Spring for some more expensive ammo. CCI Mini Mag HP comes to mind, or maybe some Federal bulk. I like the plated stuff. You may be pleased.
