I've been wanting a MK III Hunter for a while but like a lot of people I shyed away from them based on lots of comments about how hard they are to disassemble. I also really wanted one based on how much people like them and how well they shoot. Thanks to a referral on another board regarding Bullseye I came here and studied his very well done documentations. Needless to say I picked up my new"Hunter" 2 days ago from my FFL after the Cal. 10 day wait(Ugh). I spent the first evening removing just the bolt and mainspring housing and then replacing them. After about the sixth time I got it. Then no big deal. Last night I spent removing the bolt, mainspring housing and the receiver. The receiver was on pretty tight and after about 4 pops with a leather hammer it came off. I then realized that the receiver is not on some slide mechanism but was on short fittings. I know with use, they will smooth out. It took about 8 trys with putting the receiver on correctly and lining up the bolt stop holes then it was a no brainer. I bought 200 rounds of CCI Mini Mags and hope to shoot it some time over the 4th at my local range and will be happy to give a range report. Tonight I will do the proper cleaning oiling and new gun preparations to get it ready to shoot. I must say the complication of the Ruger .22s is no where near the rumors. I welcome any of the Members cleaning and oiling tips.Thanks again Gun Talk and Bullseye.

Congratulations on receiving your new pistol! Waiting for the Cali 10 day hold period to pass can lead to a whole bunch of anticipation, almost like Christmas morning. One of the reasons you're not struggling with that new pistol is your doing the all proper research before experiencing a difficulty and then getting all frustrated about it. I agree, there's not much to these pistols when you invest a little time in learning how to take them apart and put them back together again.

I suspect a 'watch maker' could give US some tips on cleaning
and oiling such a device... then again a watch has to work EVERY SECOND,
and a pistol only has to work for a couple milli-seconds at a time

I carry a small squirt-bottle of Hoppe's "Gun Oil" and "Powder Solvent"
with some toothpicks and Qtips... with a few (paper) ShopTowels for
my main cleaning tools... when the grip-mechanism is getting dirty
with powder-residue... an application of powder solvent and step outside
and blow it out with an AirCompressor and it will be clean-as-a whistle.. !!
Be sure to re-Oil afterwards to replace the lube that is blown-out and
to fight the moisture that is contained in the compressed air...
I do not use a 'cleaning rod'... just the Qtip in a couple inches of the
muzzle and from the chamber... and run a couple drops of gunoil down
the bore when I put it up...
