I'm sure others have asked the same question, but I'd like an assurance and maybe some necessary clarifications.

Question: Can I buy a VQ MKII accurizing kit to put into a MKIII? Mine's a MKIII hunter. Obviously, I'd like that mag disconnect safety to go away. Will some smithing be involved, or is it a simple drop-in procedure?

You can install the Mark II kit in a Mark III but that's not all you need to make the mag safety go away. You also need a Mark II hammer bushing. The only ones available today are from Clark Custom. They have a kit of oversized hammer bushing and pin sets for $15.

The installation is mostly a drop in procedure. There is some adjusting for the pretravel and the overtravel screws.

If you don't want to buy the whole kit just get a VQ target sear and trigger. You can install the Mark II bushing into the Mark III hammer with the pins. The only thing the kit has over the parts is the extended bolt release and I don't think too highly of it - its kind of a cheap looking piece of bent sheet metal.

So I take it that the VQ hammer's improvement over the factory is neglible for the costs- like a serious case of diminishing returns, i suppose?

By the way, the detailed stripping guides have been immensely helpful. The factory manual is lacking, at best.

The sear makes the real difference on the felt trigger pull. The VQ hammer is a lightweight, with a cut-out in the center, that sometimes can cause a light strike. More mass on the OEM hammer, so use them whenever you can.

You want the CLK-517 kit for your 22/45. It has blued pins.

Yes, just take out the Mark III bushing components and replace it with the Clark Mark II versions and you're good to go.
