Mark 3 Hunter Sights

I have now replaced my sear with a VQ and adjusted the factory over travel now onto the sights.
I would like to keep open sights but I am not real happy with the Hi Vis (too large) sights.
I know about calling Ruger and getting the iron sights for this gun but was interested in hearing other peoples ideas and attemps to switching these sights out to a more thinner stlye.

I was just checking out some of the things on the site and looking at the gun and I thought of this, I removed the Hi Vis front light pipe and thought that what if you looked through the now empty hole where the light pipe was.
Could this be used as a front sight?
Kind of small but can't really tell until I got to the range.
What do you think?
