Here is a photo of the cause of the "slingshotting" troubles I have been having.
The Win 555 bulk is a large hollow point bullet and sometimes gets hung up on
the feed ramp of my Mlll. The shaven off portion results when I give the bolt a
little help feeding the ammo. It feeds ok when the action is cycled through firing,
but when I slingshot, it hangs up. The hollow point ammo is physically quite large
as compared to CCI RN. I loaded some CCI RN and it didn't have any problems.

Feed ramp strikes with hollow point ammo is a continuing problem for Ruger Marks. This is one reason why they've extended the feed ramp length in the newer pistols. I suspect if you manually eject a few of the rounds that appeared to feed normally you'll see some nose deformation on those rounds too.

If you have the top bullet pointing up does it help any? I had some WW ammo back during the shortage, 10 boxes. About 1/2 the boxes had feeding problems (all same lot) in my MKIII or my Browning SA 22. I miced the bullets and they were running about 0.0005-0.001" over what the Fed were running. Now not all of the bullets were oversized, just some. Once I shot these up I did not buy any more WW. Now accuracy was better than the Fed bulk.

How "new" is the feed ramp extension? Mine is mid-2008 production, and doesn't seem to have any problem. The few duds I've ejected haven't shown any deformation. A lot of the duds were Winchester "333" pack, which I think are the same as the "555".
The majority of my shooting is Federal HP bulk and CCI Mini-Mag HP, which both perform better than Winchester, or Remington.

The feed ramp extension modification has been incorporated within the last year of production. You can look at this post and see what the extensions look like

This jam seems to be just happening on the slingshot into action first round.
The momentum of the cycling forces the next round right up the feed ramp.
When I shot the CCI RN there wasn't a problem. I haven't tried pointing the
first round in the mag upwards, but I think that would do the job. It would be
nice not having to do that, but that's the way it is. Probably most guns have
their quirks.
