Muzzle Brakes

I just put one on my MK-III Target and it caused pitting on the muzzle of the pistol. Does anybody have a idea what's causing this??? :?: The pistol is very accurate right now but I don't know for how long it will last.

Here's a bad picture of it. The clear part is the way it's suppose to be. The shinney part is the pitting  .

Are you sure it's pitting and not powder residue caked on there? It kind of looks like the powder residue that get trapped between the bolt face and barrel. I was thinking there was suppose to be a O-ring to seal off on the crown. Makes me wonder if unburned powder is collecting and doing so damage.

That looks more like lead spatter than pitting. It could easily be confused for pitting by the typical appearance of the residue.

I let it soak in some Blue Wonder and sure enought it's coming off. You both were right as it is lead. It sure looked like it was pitting into the barrel but that was just where it was built up. :D

About all I can say for the muzzle break is it sure does look good, but it does nothing for your pistol. 8)

Thanks Gents..

It only looks good for a little while as long as you don't shoot the pistol with it attached. It does't take too long for lead residue to build up externally an internally on the compensator.

I'm glad Baldy's pistol will be as purty as ever. I had considered a compensator, and dismissed it as little benefit and extra cleaning. Never thought it could cause this much cleaning.

Never having one before I figured I might be missing a trick in this speed shooting that I use this Ruger for. I don't mind cleaning a gun but this took some real elbow grease. It's just not worth the time for a cosmetic piece that doesn't help your performance.. Lesson learned the hard way...
