BROKEN BOLT

Yesterday while shooting my mkii ss 51/2" bull, the end of the bolt just popped off! It appears to be a weld. Has anyone heard of this happening and what is the cure

Yes, there were several years where Ruger welded on the bolt ears instead of using a solid piece of bar stock like they do now. The ears usually break at the base of the bolt ears and leave a round post on the back of the bolt. Call Ruger and they will replace it with a Mark III bolt. This is fine since the bolt's are the same dimensions. The main difference is the slot for the LCI. Even though your new bolt will have this slot it will function identically to your old one.

Thank you for your quick response! This startled me and is the first issue i have had with 3 mkii"s. I hope the other two are not welded!

If you look here you'll see another fellow who recently had a similar experience http://rimfirecentral.com/forums/showth ... p?t=389455

I saw that post & then went & looked at my KMK678 & sure enough it also has the two piece bolt..
It has no gap YET so I will live with it BUT will watch it closely..
BTW My MKII was made in 1986..

Good thread and good info, fellows. I just bought a 1980 Mark II. I'll keep an eye on the bolt and if any problems, off to Ruger it goes.

Half the reason for buying Ruger is the way they stand behind their firearms.
