Gun Show: Ideas in Rimfires

The fall Richmond gun show is this weekend and I will make my usual pilgrimage. I have a MKIII Hunter, Single Six and 22A. Anyone have a suggestion on a reasonably priced addition? I probably won't touch an S&W M41 because temptation is strong and the will is weak. What would be a fun addition to my collection?

Greener, How you doin? I feel your pain having to make such a difficult decision.
Like yourself I've gone a little rimfire crazy this past year and having a lot of fun in the process

. I have a little Ruger 1022 DSP rifle with a Burris 4-12x rimfire scope mounted on it. Also a MKIII SS Hunter 67/8" fluted brl , MkIII 22/45 51/2" SS bull brl, Colt Fronteer Scout In Box with papers (I bought it in 1966 right after I returned from VN and was poor as a church mouse) 22lr/22mag single six SA and a S&W 22A-1 and I love shooting them all very much. It's a tossup between the Hunter and the 22A1 as to which is my favorite pistol. And an additional benefit of the 22's for me is that my wife who is afraid of guns will shoot the rimfires and seem to have fun doing it with me especially if one of the grandsons is along. ha! I don't think she wants to appear to be a scardy cat.
Anyway, getting to the point of this reply ....... The other day while messing around at a gunshop near by I had a chance to handle a 41 for the first time and boy did it feel and look good. I've handled and shot many 22's including the Browning's, Trailsides, Beretta's, Walthers, etc and the ones I own are the ones that feel and shoot great for me. But, after that experience the other day with the 41and reading everywhere how great the S&W Model 41 pistol is I would recommend you do like myself and consider a new S&W 41 as a special gift to ourselves. lol. I put it on my XMAS list today and the next new one (new because like several of the fellows said...
"the used ones are generally the bad ones") I run across if the price is right it's mine.

And that will complete my 22.r arsenal.
Hope this helps.

Know what you mean about the Mod 41. I've put out the hints, but my kids seem to have a intermittant hearing problem. Santa may have to bring me one if they don't.
For rimfires, this show was not great shakes. Saw very few Rugers, a couple of P22's and a couple of guys had 22A's. Saw a few rimfire rifles. I don't recall seeing a buckmark, single six or M41 at the show. Definitely a loudenboomer show. 22A prices ranged from $184 to $229. I went to look at 1911 prices (and specifically the new taurus) or something in 9mm or .40 if the price was right. The dealer was doing his best to steer folks away from the Taurus if they asked about it. Couldn't find anything in rimfire that turned me on, and decided I liked the Smith M&P 9mm. Not a bad shooter if I can decide which one of us is shooting low.
The three rimfires I have are fun to shoot. Hard to decide which one I like best, although the single six is fast gaining ground. Mama likes the 22A almost as well as she likes my 70+ year old .38 police special.
Mod 41's are scary. I know if I handle one again at the wrong time, there will be a big sucking sound in the vicinity of my savings account.

Greener, I looked at that S&W M&P myself but haven't made up my mind yet. I've got a pair of Kimber Pro Carry IIs, one in .45 and the other in 9mm and I've sold both of my Springfield XDs so I've kind of got the hots for another polymer or alloy-framed 9mm. Did you look at the CZ P01? I handled one of those the other day and it sure felt good in my paw! I bought a CZ 452 American in .22 LR a couple of months ago and it quickly became my favorite rimfire. I'm a souhpaw shooter and they seemed to make the best quality rifle with that orientation for the money. I put an Automation Solutions adjustable sear and the matching light trigger spring in it and I just love it. You might want to look at one if you want to add to your rimfire rifle collection.

blindpig: Saw a few CZ handguns but don't recall seeing a 452 at the show. In fact, I don't recall seeing a 452 at any of the gunshops I've been to in Richmond. They may have them and I just may not have noticed. A fellow at the range this weekend was firing a CZ handgun. Don't recall the model, but for a $200 used handgun it felt good and he seemed to do quite well with it. It was used, but from the looks of it, not very much.
Mentioned the M&P to my son-in-law who works at a Gander Mountain seemingly to support his ambition of owning one or two of every firearm made. The nicest thing he said about the M&P was "sigma repackaged with all the worst ideas." Not sure he is entirely without a bit of bias. Ergonomics are darned good and it fired without failures of any kind. Trigger seems to be pretty good for DAO. Just need to figure out which one of us is shooting consistently low. Will shoot from a rest this weekend to check it out.
