I've several bricks of Federal Champion 525 bulk pack I bought on sale at Cabelas over three years ago. Before that purchase I'd never had duds in either the Wally Federal 550 bulk packs or the Champion 525 bulk pack. Unfortunately, a friend who warned against that three year old Federal Champion was right and I'm getting several duds per brick. And some aren't going off on the second strike.

Am trying to prepare for matches later this year and want ammo that goes bang every time. So far, with a brick and a half of CCI Blazer, I haven't had a dud. Just bought my first boxes of Winchester 333 and Federal Auto Match (325) and wonder what to expect. Any good .22 ammo ought to be accurate enough for this type of shooting. Are these three different types of ammo expected to function well in Ruger Mk II 22/45's ?

(ON EDIT) - Bulk prices at Walmart all seem to come between 3.4 cents to 3.6 cents per round (Fed 550 bulk, WW 550 HP, WW 500 HiVel, WW 333 pack). Hoping to find Federal 550 bulk for $15.47 in Sou. or Western Colorado, but so far to no avail. Is the Winchester 333 equal to Federal Auto Match? The WW 333 is not more expensive at $11.47 for 333 than the other economy bulk packs.

Have been using the Federal Auto Match with good results so far. Went thru 2 boxes with no duds then 1 dud in the last box using a Mk.3. A few
FTF in a Sig Mosquito but they all went off on the second strike.

With the bulk I only get maybe 1 dud/box on fed and less on Win. Never had one with the Fed AM. Look at the Fed Champ or lightning (510(b) load), these only come 50/box and are around 1.50/box. A round that I use for hunting is the America Eagle AE22. These are more accurate than the Fed AM. The Fed load number for it is 712. After that you start getting in to target ammo and the price starts going up.

When was the last time you detail cleaned the gun, including the bolt?

Home from a long trip. 3 more Walmarts in western CO, all pricing Fed 550 bricks at $18.47. All were out of Fed Auto Match, which I guess is the best of those I mentioned. I've got some CCI Blazer and will use it in practice for a while. If it doesn't misfire, I'll take it to matches like I did a week ago. Wasn't concerned about it and it worked.

I've got about 10 50 round boxes of old Fed Champion Standard Velocity and RWS Target, though I should save these for an attempt at needed bullseye work.

Bought some of the Fed 550, imagining that the new boxes will make the ammo work good. What a fantasy! But, maybe?

The 3 year old Fed Bulk Champion 525's were being used in a very clean gun, with about 2-3 per brick failing completely, and about 4-5 needing two strikes. Gun's out of action, awaiting parts. Anxiously, awaiting, that is.

In my Buckmark for matches I use either CCI Mini-Mags, Fed. AutoMatch, or Win SuperSpeed RN. All are 40g solids and from 1200-1300 FPS rating. At steel plate distances they all tend to shoot to the same POA. Some guys I know use Fed, Rem, or Win bulk boxes but I get one too many duds for match use although I will use them for practice. My rifle tends to like CCI SV although I use the others also on occasion.

I have not had any FTF from the Fed 550's in over 2500 rounds now. Maybe they have their QC straighten out. But my MKIII feed every thing I have tried.

I have always had good luck with CCI Blazer ammo. It is priced well and seems to be as accurate and reliable as ammo that is priced higher.I had 5 bricks that I just finished and did not have a single dud and very few light loads.It is also just about as accurate as CCI Standard Velocity out of my MKIII. For the type of shooting you are doing I would use CCI Blazer.The Federal 510(champion) would be my second choice.
