mod 41 barrel

does anyone know what the number stamped on the under side of the barrel means. A guy told me the higher or lower the number the better grade barrel which way is it

That's just an old Internet myth. The number on the bottom of the barrel is a S&W inspector's stamp. It does not correlate to any barrel testings or grouping sizes. I have two barrels with the number zero stamped on them. I guess according to legend, my barrel's shots were so precise that they have no lateral measurements.
