newby alert!
Just got a new MkIII hunter in Stainless with 6 7/8 fluted. I picked up a VQ Volthane grip from rimfire sports as well as a MKII hammer bushing to sub in and get rid of the annoying mag safety "feature". What's the best topic to search on to get a detailed disassy/assy and handy info on this mod.
thanks, Schnauzer

Howdy right back atcha, Schnauzer, and welcome!

Go to the Technical board, there are a number of stickies on disassembling and reassembling MK III's and some stuff specific to installing VQ parts.

Thanks guys. I'm just getting into handgun shooting after a long layoff. I used to shoot .22 competition rifle way way back in college and now a good friend got me all interested in handguns at 50ft. So what a better way to get into it than going with a sweet looking Ruger. Open sights w/ 54 yr old eyes got me into a 5-6 inch group. So it's red dot sights for my tri-focaled eyes, LOL.
I hope to make this forum one of my favorite places to stop.

I can relate to the old tired eyes, the reason I put a dot on my MKIII.

You picked the right board for fixing Ruger Mk's... Your starting out the same exact path I did.

Again, Welcome

Welcome indeed! Congratulation on your new Ruger pistol. My service pages will help with maintenance http://www.guntalk-online.com/service.html You can choose the link for your style of Mark III pistol. Installing the parts are relatively simple, once you get past the normal new owner teardown learning curve. I posted this picture in another thread but I'll post it again to assist you with the Mark II bushing installation.

You'll need to use the detailed stripping instructions to remove and replace the hammer components but the rest is covered in the picture above.

Good luck with your new pistol and if you need any advice there's plenty of helpful folks here to lend a hand.

R,
Bullseye

That picture is a great summary.
You forgot "stare at the bird-looking thing and then put it in a labeled baggie forever"

Welcome! You'll enjoy it here, lots of great people to share with.

I have a Volquartsen Mark 2 hammer bushing in my Mark 3. It works just fine, smoothed and lightened my trigger a little better than factory. That and a stainless filler for the chamber indicator are all I've done to it. It can outshoot my abilities, so I need do no more to it.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a good start with your Hunter.

I'm sure no one here would do that. We might mention that you might like the improvements with a VQ sear and trigger.

PS. Keep your old parts. In the unlikely event that your pistol needs a trip back to Ruger, they tend to replace non-standard parts with standard parts.

Enjoy

After putting a red dot on my Bullseye pistol, I ended up putting on most of my other pistols. In order to shoot iron I either use a diopter on safety glasses or use .75 reading glasses (this puts the front sight in focus and a slightly fuzzy target.

Thanks for the reading glasses tip. More stuff to spend $$ on LOL!
Luckily leagues start in fall so I have all summer to get into a routine and figure out where I need work!
