VQ Sear Problem

I have just spent 4 hours trying to get a VQ sear and trigger in a Mark II. I believe I have it assembled correctly but the hammer will not drop. The hammer will drop if I have a punch in the hammers holes instead of the hammer pin. I have another Mark II with VQ sear installed that I looked to see if I have it assembled correctly. On the one that will not work I cannot even get the sear to go forward when completely assembled when pushed from behind through the magazine housing. Do I just need to send the sear back to VQ? Or is there something else to look at?

is there a pre-travel and post travel screw on the new trigger? if you have one or the other too close, it will not allow the disconnector to set or release.

If the top of your trigger is hitting the front of the trigger well, and the sear isn't rotating forward enough, you may have one of the VQ sears that is out of specifications. Is it a bargain bin sear by any chance?

I bought this sear from Brownells. I purchased one from them about 6 months ago that works fine.

The trigger has post and pre travel screws both are backed off.

There have been some of the regular sears out of specs too. Sounds like you may have one. Give VQ a call and they'll replace it for you.

Called VQ yesterday and they wanted me to send them the grip frame. I asked that they send a new sear and they are. I will post the results on the new sear when I get it. They did tell me they changed the processes lately and it has caused some problems.

It is not a coincidence that this thread and another are taking a parallel path
http://www.guntalk-online.com/forum/vie ... 9777#19777. The problem is with those sears. Drop-in parts should be just that, at least they were once. The customer service at VQ is great but that only goes so far if your products are consistently creating problems. Hopefully they will get a handle on this as I do like their products.

VQ Replacement Sear

Got the replacement sear yesterday it will not work either.I know I am not a gunsmith but have put two of these in before without a problem. It looks to me like the sear is hitting the safety even in the fire position not allowing the hammer to drop. Anyone have an idea about this? I just may take VQ up on it and send my grip frame to them and let them put the sear in.

Have you compaired the factory one to the VQ, using the pin through them for a reference point? It's totally possiable that VQ has a complete lot out of spec. If the VQ is tall like you describe it will show up.
These are suppose to be drop-in parts. It does not take much to through one out of spec. Their new process for saving cost is doing just the reverse from all of the problems we are hearing.

Here is a comparison pic of a VQ that worked... see the difference in height. VQ sear on the right.

The picture did not enlarge when clicked but I can see it setting real High. I think another call to VQ is in order. Use a set of calipers or depth gauge to measure the height difference.... The sears are upside down.
I'm glad I did my own work. Looks now to be a faster and better solution.
I sure hope they get things worked out before they loose their following.

there, just for David. Examples of a VQ sear and a factory sear.
Please note, the VQ sear is the one on the right.
updated the pic to allow enlargement.

Dusky, I to have the same problem you decribed, called VQ and sent my grip frame to them. Nick said he would make it right. Just curious on what he will find. Is he gonna have to fit a bunch of instock sears to find the correct one or modify one to work correctly? Would like to buy another one for my other MKII, but not till VQ has this issue resolved. Keep us posted on whats going on, as I will on the other post Bullseye decribed in his last post...

With the barrel off does the disconnector move/engages the sear? If it acts like it's on safety the trigger will not move at all. Will the safety engage and prevent the sear from moving at all?
Did you loose the detent for the safety and it has dropped down engaging the sear? I only ask this because you said it looks like the safety is holding it.
I do see the height difference but the VQ appears a little shorter which is what expected. VQ uses a more relaxed angle on their sear.
If the top of your trigger is hitting the front of the trigger well, and the sear isn't rotating forward enough, you may have one of the VQ sears that is out of specifications.
Bullseye asked this, have you checked to see if the trigger is hitting the frame.
