I'm working on an old MKII made in 1986 it is blue 5.5" slab side barrel. It belongs to a guy I work with.

The pistol has the old VQ wide trigger in it and the sear is Gold in color.
Did VQ ever make gold colored sears?

I have no idea if they did but is it Ti coated?

I do know if you heat the steel to a certain temp (heat treating and tempering) it will give you that gold color. But I would expect it to wear off on the engagement area.

No they did not make a coated sear. The clue to an old VQ sear is the flash moulding seam right down the center of the sear. It could be some old cleaning solvent or oils that have dried and tarnished the finish.

It's bright and shinny at first I thought it may be brass but that is not the case.

Oh well, I fixed it, cleaned and lubed it and it's going back to the owner tomorrow.
