Does anyone know if Ruger ever produced a M II with a 3 or 3.5" barrel? Aguy offered to sell me one and when I asked about barrel length he said it was 3 or 3.5". The shortest one I can find is the MK-4 which has a 4.75" barrel. There is a 22/45 version with a 4" bull barrel but he said that he had changed the grips on it so I don't think it's a 22/45

i think there may have been a special rum of them out there because I've seen them from time to time pop up on gunbroker, but i think he's may be measuring the barrell length wrong.....

It is supposed to be measured from breachface to the end of the muzzle. I found that out one day in court for a fellow I picked up packin' a sawed off 12 gauge pump. so instead of well under the 18" barrell restriction he was 17.5" ...needless to say I learned something that day in court that I was not taught in the academey.... measure a barrell from breachface to muzzel.

Those 17.5" barreled shotguns are DANGEROUS! So much more dangerous than an 18" shotgun!

they had to set the length some where I guess... it's 16" for rifles...

i can see where someone would think thats a 3" barrell.

Well, I don't think that a gun's cosmetic features should dictate legality in the first place ... so no, they didn't.

On my 4" Standard, the part of the barrel from the receiver to the muzzle is about 3.25". I have to think the 3" barrel is a measurement thing.

Barrel lengths. overall lengths, weight caliber and any other restriction is just a law, most of them have most likely got no real reason for them. I'll pass on the Rum too, make mine Jack Black and a tall water when I do have one at home in the evening before bed. Normally carry at least one gun, so no alky, because the limits are very low.

Not really a cosmetic thing. it all came out of the Bonnie and Clyde days when they would cut down the barrells and stocks of BAR's (Clyde called them a Whipit gun because he could whip it out so fast) and shotguns to make them more concealable under a long coat and more useable in and out of a sedan. I never really thought of barrell length as a cosmetic feature, I've always thought it was more useful in shotguns for keeping patterns together or in rifles for aiding in accuracy/velocity.

i'd say so.... bonie and clyde, dillenger, machine gun kelly, baby face nelson, etc. didn't seem to care about the not shooting people law. but what do I know, I didn't write it. most laws weren't written to effect the good folks anyhow....
