Some .22 Trivia

Post by greener » Sun Oct 25, 2009 10:16 am

I've had a passing curiosity about rimfire handgun sales and relative rank by manufacturer. The only place I've seen numbers has been the ATF web site, which has manufacturing report summaries through 2007.

Ruger made about 40% of all .22 pistols manufactured in the US.

The big manufacturers in .22 revolvers were Heritage and North American Arms. Looks like Rough Riders and mini-pocket revolvers have been hot items. Ruger's manufacturing is about half that of Heritage

I've never seen a pistol made by Arms Technology, Inc., but I would expect one to have a stag-head emblem.

2007 180,216 .22 pistols manufactured up from 141651 in 2006
Ruger ~76,000 (2007) up from ~52,000 in 2006
S&W 26,408 (2007) 21, 792 (2006)
Beretta 20759 (2007) 16148 (2006)
Arms Technology Inc 19721 (2007) 19686 (2006)

Revolvers 91,963 (2007), 84,482 (2006)

Heritage 36,555 (2007), 32842 (2006)
North American Arms 31898 (2007) 31065 (2006)
Ruger 15375 (2007) 13138 (2006)
S&W 7223 (2007) 6265 (2006)

Interesting, I may well be wrong, but perhaps ATI is the one who has the license to manufacture the Browning Buck Mark and others under contract. Regards

Browning is in Morgan, UT at an address Google Maps can't find. ATI is in Salt Lake City.

I found it:WikiAnswers - Who manufactures the browning buck mark 22lr semi ... Browning Firearms question: Who manufactures the browning buck mark 22lr ... It's not made by browning it's made by a company call Arms Technology Inc. (ATI)

Browning has been doing this sort of thing for years, I remember when FN made the Challenger for them in it's Belgium plant. Regards

I was pretty sure ATI made the Buck Mark, but couldn't find anything that definitely made the link.

Sounds like you both were right on ATI. The stag head emblem and the Buckmark are licensed as one and the same for this manufacturer.
