Installed the VQ upgrade package for my Mark III. What an experience
spent 4 hours trying to figure it out. TheVQ Video would have really helped , if this was the 10th time I did an upgrade. Thank God for Bullseye's Detailed Strip page. I did spend at least 1 hour looking for that darn Thumb Saftey detent Ball. Every time I would try and install the saftey the darn Ball would fly out. Put a dab of White Lit. Grease on it and that helped hold it in place. After installing and un installing the parts I finialy got everything back together. The adjustable trigger is great. Tonight I'll install the VQ extractor and mount a Ultra Red Dot scope.
Hope to have everything ready for my first Bullseye Shoot this weekend.
Should be interesting shooting one handed at 50 and 25 yards. If it wasn't
for this Web Sight my Mark III would be on it's way back to Ruger in pieces.....Thanks Again Bullseye

Well Rick, I'm glad to hear that it all worked out well for you. If that was your first detail strip - then you did good. I find that it helps to have a powerful magnet handy if one of the parts decide to relocate. I know that many people have found an errant safety detent ball, lost in thick carpet, with a magnet far faster than by searching by hand. Hopefully you'll have tested that pistol out thoroughly before an actual bullseye match. Sometimes the pre-travel screw needs a little readjusting after the action heats up. Once you get it set don't forget some Blue Loctite to hold the adjusting screw securely in place. Good luck on your first shoot. Pay attention to who's shooting around you and ask questions when it's appropriate from the skilled shooters - you may locate a good shooting mentor that way. Us bullseye guys are always looking for folks who want to learn more about technique and are more than happy to share the knowledge.

Did a Detailed Strip on the Bolt last night, cleaned and oiled all parts, replaced the Extractor with the VQ offering. Adjusted the trigger over-all and pre-travel screws. Trigger pull measures 2.7 pounds, nice and crisp. Went out the back yard and fired two clips everything functioned great.
Installed an Ultra Dot scope, will hopefully sight it in this evening, if it dosen't rain.

Bullseye, your post reminded me of a flash of brilliance (or madness) that I had recently hunting for tiny screws in carpet, and I thought I'd share...Bullseye wrote:I find that it helps to have a powerful magnet handy if one of the parts decide to relocate. An Altoids tin with magnets in it becomes a magnetic broom
I keep lots of the little rare earth button magnets (surprisingly inexpensive) on hand for a number of uses, but that one was possibly the best one yet, and it is a sanity-saver if you knock a few screws onto carpet. I spread about 10 magnets in the tin and left them there, the magnetized tin lives on the fridge now as a holder for binder clips, ready to be pulled and rubbed over the carpet at the drop of a ... pin, I guess.
Great Idea! I think these home made solutions are easy and some of the best ways to tackle a problem.
Hopefully you won't reach for a breath mint one night half awake and accidentally pop one of your special ones in your mouth without really looking at it.
You could accidentally create a new life sized BFD refrigerator magnet that way.
