I have a MK III Hunter. In the manual, it appears that the parts diagram is wrong. Part 12 (rear sight base set screw) and part 16 (rear sight elevation screw) are reversed. Am I right?

On the diagram available from the Ruger website, the elevation screw (part 12) is identified correctly, but the set screw is identified as one of two springs. I know I’m being anal, but I just want to be sure I’m reading things right. I’m this way about my Miata, too!

I discovered this because even with the rear sight elevation screw bottomed out, I shoot high. Yet, the sight itself can still be lowered (with finger pressure) another 1/16””, so I'm considering shortening the elevation screw. I checked the parts diagram to be sure I wouldn’t screw something up.

I don't have the printed version of the manual handy to verify. Here is the proper locations of the sight screws.



At what distance are you shooting when you're shots are striking high? How much (inches) are they above the aiming point?

I replaced the rear blade with a square-notch (thanks, Ruger!), but haven't shot it yet with the new blade. Maybe next week. I'll let you know how it does.

That's only eight yards out, so the sights will not usually adjust that low at that distance.

#16 is the anchor screw and should be tight. #10 is the verticle spring. #12 is elevation adjustment while #15 is windage adjustment.

You were right, #12 and #16 are definitely reversed in their nomenclature descriptions on the parts list. I just looked at the .pdf file on Ruger's website, they have it wrong there too. The Mark II parts version is correct, but unlike the Mark III diagram, they have the parts indexed by the part number then the nomenclatures match properly when you look them up on the parts list.
