Ruger Mark All target sight glitch

Ever since I got my Mark III in November, and especially after my Single-Six in February, I had a puzzle. I could shoot 3 inch groups at 25 yards with the Single-Six right off the bat, all in ten ring after sighting in a bit. And my sight blade stayed centered in the sight body.

With the Mark III, it seemed no matter what I did, I was getting 4-5 inch groups, and I had to run the sight blade completely to the right. I thought my grip was needing a lot of work.

My experience years ago with earlier editions of both guns was that I always shot the Single-Six better then, too. But not this much better.

A simple piece of string showed me a cause at the range today. Run from the center of the front blade to the center of the elevation screw, it made an angle across the scope mount filler screws. The rear sight wasn't centered in the dovetail slot when it left Ruger.

I loosened the set screw, and it took several firm hits wuth a nylon hammer to scoot the sight base straight. Then I tightened the set screw, and put my sight blade back in the center. Lo and behold, my groups shrank a little, and I was no longer tending to perforate the left side half of the target too often. I still got 4 inch groups, but now that I'm not distracted by an offset blade, I'll likely get better the next trip.

You may have to wick some Locktite into the dovetail slot and the hold down screw. If you sight base comes loose that will fix it for you.

The base was plenty tight, even with the setscrew loose. I feel certain it wasn't quite centered by Ruger.

Probably not, but everyone sees through the sights a little differently. None of mine are centered longitudinally but that's where I shoot.

Mine wasn't either. It was way off by anyone's eye.
