Mk2 22/45 Feeding Problem

Gentlemen:
I have a problem for your discussion.
The gun is a Mk2 22/45 with a Tac-Sol barrel/reciever.
With several different magazines, the fresh round being fed into the chamber will hang up with the bullet patrtially into the chamber and the case pointed up at a 45 degree angle.
This happens on the eighth round with 2 of the 3 magazines we tried.
I performed the mag mod on one magazine and the problem moved to the seventh round.
Weak recoil spring?
Or?

There was a similar problem on one of these Tacsol receivers several weeks ago. I explained that his problem was a timing error. He called Tacsol and they wanted him to send in his pistol with the mags and they said they would fix it for him. As I recall, they did fix it by lowering the receiver fit slightly on the frame. Your problem is a timing error commonly know as a chamber override. This can be caused by the magazine feed lips, extractor, or mispositioned rounds in the mag. Since it is only a specific round in a full mag this sounds like the mag is not allowing the rims of the successive rounds to stack in front of the previous round's rims. This causes the feeding error as when the round with the rim caught behind the lower rim cannot feed in time to align the bullet nose with the chamber mouth. Here I am only going on theory, so you may wish to contact the manufacturer and see if they will offer to mate your receiver and frame too. There could be a production tolerance error that has previously gone unnoticed and Tacsol may have to make adjustments to the tooling process.

Thanks, Bullseye. I sent a copy of your posting to the owner. I'll post the results if and when. . .

Bullseye,
The Tacsol upper with the Ruger grip frame are still in Boise, Id., Tactical Solutions shop. They thought my many fail to feed issues was a Ruger problem. I put 400 rounds of 5 different types of ammo thru the gun with the factory Ruger barrel and only had 2 FTE and that was with Rem. Golden Bullets. I informed Tacsol of this and they now have the whole gun and promised to get it running. Originally, the barrel fit real loose, enough where it rattled when shaken ( not stirred ). They tightened up the upper but the FTF wasn't fixed.
Patience is not one of my strong points, and am now................waiting

I don't know what their current backlog is in the Tacsol shop. They may have to do a lot of testing and tweaking to get it right for you. Sometimes doing the job right takes considerable time. I'm sure they'll do a good job. Waiting is something that seems to take forever but it will pass.

The pistol only got there only 5 days ago. I've talked to Lon over there at TacSol and I'm sure it will be taken care of. You are right about their backlog. Ruger said it was a 4-6 week wait to get the new hammer pin, and the last time they had the gun I figure it was in their hands for less than a week, the turn around time was fast. The only thing is this is the only .22 I own, and have a few VQ parts ready to be installed. On the other hand I was just looking at the Kimber rimfire pistols.........SWEEET lookin'

The Kimber 22 is so light you can't feel it in your hands. Too light for me.

Any updates on your Receiver and what the problem was???
My Tac Sol Pac Lite will run some ammo pretty close to 100%. It likes Federal Auto Match, Federal 550's, it also like Remington Subs and Aguila 40 Gr Subs. If I feed it anything CCI or Win. Dynapoints, or other various ammo, it will choke. Maybe you just need to find an ammo that it likes. Those Tac Sol receivers don't have a wide ammo tolerance like the Ruger Receiver that it replaces. This has been my experience with them. I like mine a lot though. Tac Sol has good CS as well.
