New Guy With Question

Post by Geezer » Mon May 11, 2009 8:31 pm

Hello, new guy here. I was fortunate enough to come across a Ruger Standard grip/frame and bolt. I have a take off upper from a MK III 22/45 and want to put it on the lower to have another .22 plinker. I have removed the LCI so the bolt will work but the upper doesn't want to slide rearward and lock onto the tab on the lower. Has anyone else done this? What is required to fit these two together?

The underside of the 22/45 receiver is peened in the factory to tighten the fit onto the polymer frame of the 22/45 pistol. It sounds like you're trying to mate a 22/45 receiver onto a regular steel frame and that dent in the front lug recess is preventing the final fit. Sometimes the receivers will fit onto individual metal frames without altering other times they wont.

Fitting the front lug can be accomplished by either removing some material off of the receiver's lug recess or off of the underside of the frame's front lug. Which one you choose to modify depends on how much material needs to be removed for a proper fit.
