Is there a way to modify a Mark I magazine to load 10 rounds? Will a Mark II magazine fit?
Yes to both answers. The bottom of the Mark I mag follower can be shaved enough (about 1/8th inch) to allow for an extra round. Also the external dimensions of the M9 and M10 mags are identical. This means as long as the follower button is on the proper side for your Mark I/Standard it will fit and operate properly.

The What?
Bullseye, I am a little dense this morning. What do you mean by the mag follower. Is it the chrome base to the magazine, or the piece inside the magazine the first round makes contact with. The original mag is crimped in place and I don't know whether I could un-crimp it to take the magazine base off to get to the inside piece. Didn't you have a thread on doing something like that to convert an early model magazine into a hold open one, or did that only work on the Mark II? TB

I do not mean for anyone to attempt to remove the staked on magazine bottom block, this would ruin the magazine.
I am talking about removing the magazine follower from inside the mag and shaving off 1/8" from the surface that touches the follower spring. With the M9 mag, one has to insert a tool from the top to push and hold the follower down so the follower button aligns with the circular relief cut in the follower button track. The button can now be removed from the mag body, but take care as the spring and follower can shoot out of the mag body if not held in place. Slowly release tension on the follower until it can be removed from the mag body through the top of the mag. Now you can remove the material off the bottom of the follower. Reinstall in reverse order and the mag will hold 10 instead of nine rounds.
