Rat Shot... Bullseye...

Bullseye, I have fired plenty in my years but curious if I am going to suffer any ejector damage etc. by using rat shot in my MKIII. I will be using it as single shot.
I am going hunting for carpenter bees that are attacking my barn. I could use my ruger MK rifle but these buggers are quite good pilots and the pistol will be easier to get on point and lead to pick 'em off...

Don't really see how they can damage the ejector but if it does it can always be repaired. Have not shot any of those in many years and I do mean MANY. All I can remember their effective range is very short. Back when I was young and stupid used to shoot blanks in my revolver at flies on the table of the cabin, boy will that get a new guys attention, that was about 55 years ago. Now that I am older and hopefully less stupid I can see where that really was stupid. When we get older we get wiser, well at least we are getting older.

My shots will be max 6-8 feet. They are hammering my rafter boards. I have 30 to 40 in a hundred square feet at any one time. The short distance I have to worry about is why I want the pistol for this. I would throw my back out I am afraid if I was trying to swing on them with the rifle...

At that distance the concussion wave of a blank should knock the out of the air. try it, you may like it, and not have to worry about overshoots.

My barn is a 20 year old building to have survived a few hurricanes so I ain't so worried about a few dings....
I will look for blanks but thus far the wal-mart has none and my local gunshop wants 9 bucks for 50 ratshot...

Looks like an errant shot will cause no noticeable damage. go for it.

I don't see any damage to your ejector or extractor from single loading ammo. The extractor in a Ruger 22 Auto is spring loaded and moves over the case rim very easily - unlike the extractor of a 1911.
