Today while cleaning the pistol I noticed this:

Will the rebound spring still function properly missing 2 coils? Do I need to get a new spring? Lastly, is a broken firing pin rebound spring indicative to another problem?

You can leave both parts on the rebound spring guide temporarily and call Ruger for a replacement spring. That little piece will provide the proper spacing for the rest of the spring to work properly returning the firing pin.

These springs do just break sometimes. I have not seen this failure to be indicative of a larger problem. It could have been a simple tempering problem with the spring itself at the production site.

I've broken these before. I think I called Ruger and they sent me a couple for free.
