Picked up a new H001 toady and the gun works just fine but there are some operator problems. Old eyes have a hard time seein that crude front sight. Had one of my Ruger 22/45's laying on the bench and I have HiViz sights on it like the Ruger Hunter pistols use. Took the hood off the front sight and both of those sights look to be pretty much the same height. Took the screw out of the barrel band and removed it and took the sight off the pistol, used the screw off the Henry to mount the Hiviz sight and it looks good. Will take it out and try it tomorrow weather permitting. Will just use some tape at present to support the mag tube and if things go well, will trim the sight and ramp off the band and tap the old screw hole for a setscrew to clamp it to the barrel, really doesn't need it because it presses on fairly tight. If things work well I will post some pics in the future.

Congrats! Most people seem to really like the Henry. I think it would make a great squirrel gun.

It's not the eyes. They started using inferior metal that blurs after a short period.

Gluing on a Hi-Viz light tube will make it stand well.

Actually the Henry front sight/barrel band is made from a sometimes invisible type of plastic. That Ruger Hunter front sight looks good on it, if the weather is decent this afternnoon we will try it out.

About 80 here. Nice weather. Went by the gun show to pick up some reloading supplies on the way to the range. Unbelievable crowd. Stood in line to buy bullets and primers and made the mistake of deciding to go look around while the line went down. When I came back, it took 45 minutes to buy my stuff. Decided lunch sounded better than the range.

Got a scope rail for Henry, and have scopes and/or red dots that we can put on it. May modify the front sight with a HiViz light pipe like I have on a lot of my guns. The green ones sure do stand out against a black target.

Hey OM, I have to agree with you on the "green HiViz". Green seems to stand out very well for me, as "Mine eyes have seen the glory", but not as good as they used to. I have the fiber optic on my Ruger Mark lll , and have a few different colors to choose from, but my favorite is green.

Well, it rained all day so did not get to try it out, but the sights are about the same height. I cut and sanded the sight and ramp off the sight/magazine tube support and tapped a hole in it for a setscrew to hold it a little better than just a friction fit. Looks like it will get the job done.Also looks like the bad weather is going to stick around for a few days so don't have a clue to when I will get to try it out.

Hey OM, that looks real nice, "sweet looking rifle". You must be quite handy with rev's and such, the sights look good too. I was at the range today shooting my Ruger 10/22 rifle today with a friend who had a "Marlin" 22lr. The Marlin looks just like yours, Lever action, and a real nice finish to the stock. Keep us posted as to the results of your first shoot with this gun, and even your 2nd, 3rd.....

Did I say something "astray", if I did, ooops, sorry. It does has some of the same features.

I, too, have a Henry... and have no complaints at all...
however... Marlin just has a warmer spot in my heart...

Would really love to have a Marlin or a Winchester but the Henry was available for a lot less money. Missed a Winchester a while back just because I did not want to spend just short of $200.00 more than what the Henry could be bought for. Not looking for a collector or bragging gun just a shooter. I did shoot it hte other day and other than that poor front sigh it worked great.

I've been on the Marlin site. They are a bit snobbish about the 39. The used Marlin 39's I've seen around here fetch a pretty good price even if they look beat up and battered. The Winchester 94 22's seem to be going for $600-$800 and not in pristine shape. The only real deal I've seen was one that went for $400 and looked like it may have been out of the box 3-4 times.

The sight change was one of those bolts from the blue, enlightening thoughts. Hod one of my 22/445's laying on the bench and noticed that the HiViz was about the same height as the sight on the Henry, well the old brain started running so we got some tools out and got the job done. Hope the weather changes soon so I can go try it out.
Dealer/friend North of me, nephew of the guy who owns the sop you were in had a nice Winchester 9422 on consignment and wanted $400.00 for it, I made an offer of $350.00 but lost the deal. Had I realized it was a great deal I would have gone the $400.00. Well at least this way I have another $150.00 for other uses.Really was not planning on buying a Henry unti later this year and my dealer has not had one in since last fall. While looking for a 1911 for Hakaman, I noticed this one in the rack, it was not there last week. Figured I better buy it before they get scarce and besides it has decent wood on it. And that is the rest of the story.

Don't do any hunting any more, guess I am getting too old for all that tromping through the brush and getting worn out, wear and tear is taking its told just due to regular everyday use. Never really hunted many 4 legged creatures, was really into the feathered and winged one.s. Really enjoyed pheasant, grouse and woodcock and ducks, maybe a rabbit once in a while if we stumbled across one in the woods or fields while hunting the birds. That is about it, maybe I never could get the idea of eating rodents comfortable in my mind, just me other opinions may vary and normally do.
