At The Range One Day

There was a fellow shooter with this High Standard SK-100 Hamden Sport King. I had one years ago and lost it to a fire,so I commented on how much I liked the HS. The soon to be Not owner said that it was for sale,but warned that it was a jamamatic if loaded with more than 5 rounds,and that was iffy. Being hardheaded,bored,glut-ten for punishment ,etc I bought it after looking for frame cracks,original mag,etc. I did a clean/lube with Eezox and proceeded to shoot five 10 round mags of CCI SV without issue. Actually pretty nice groups considering It's old, I'm older,and I'm supposed to be thinning down my RF stable. Regards

Nice! My dad used to have a HS Military model. It shot pretty well, but I seem to remember it jamming a lot also. Don't remember what happened to it, he probably traded it off at a gunshow.

Nice looking pistol, Kaz. I wonder how many jammatics out there need a little cleaning, lube and maintenance.

Divesting yourself of rimfires? All you did was create a vacuum, to be filled with more rimfires.

I always liked the HS pistols. The magazines can be finicky, usually the feed lips cause lots of misfeeds.

Nice pistols especially the older ones, and yes the are very magazine sensitive. I hav a High Standard 101 Duramatic/J C Higgins Model 80, that I bought at my friendly Sears store in June 1957 fo $34.95. Ihave the original factory mag and on aftermarket that work without fail. Over the years I hav probably bought at least 6 other aftermarket mags from my local friiend/smith/gun shop, and they never work and he taakes them back. We finally decided to try no longer and just use the ones we have so we can remain friends, we have been friends for over 50 year, so we might as well stay that way.

Yes, I tried to win one at auction and lost out past $58, and came to the same decision as bearandoldman(I've admired that Duramatic before) to just take really good care of the one that I have. I'm told by those in the know that the mags (2)were factory fitted to each pistol. One look at what passes for a feed ramp and you understand. Regards

I wonder what one does sell for these days, just out of curiosity. Not that I would ever sell mine, next trip to the range I think it wants to go with me. How I ever got one aftermarket mag that worked was just plain luck, every one I bought after that failed miserably. If memory serves me right the factory mags have a green plastic follower, all the aftermarkets I got were white plastic.
