The front sight on my Mark lll Hunter keeps coming loose. It is held on with one screw, and I put locktite on it to secure it, but it seem like the residue, and recoil from shooting keep loosening it up. It won't stay tight. Besides the inconvenience, I'm concerned I will loose it one day. Anybody else experience this?

Happens a lot. The screw hole and screw have to be degreased before applying the Locktite sealant. Some lacquer thinner on a cotton swab will take out that shipping preservative. Once degreased it will hold like it should, just give it 24 hours before taking it out shooting.

Ye it is and it will be even better Tuesday with highs in the 50's supposedly, then I can get out and cure this cabin fever thing.
As far as the sight screw, clean and degrease the hole and screw with brake cleaner or something like it and redo the Blue Loctite. I have no Loctite on mine on any of my guns and I have had no problems, only Loctite the trigger adjustment screws. Greetings from Sunny Saginaw.

Not sold on alcohol, use brake cleaner or lacquer thinner, I prefer brake cleaner as it leaves no residue and is not flammable. Alcohol is OK for drinking if it comes from Lynchburg Tennessee.

Be sure to apply the solvent to a cotton swap and turn it all the way into the screw hole. Do that a few times with new swabs until they come out clean. The preservative has a reddish rust color appearance to it, but don't be concerned because your pistol does not have any corrosion in the screw hole, its just the oil.

I'll try the brake cleaner.
I did notice the reddish residue on the screw, maybe I need to clean it better and let it dry longer after I loctite it.

No, don't drink the brake cleaner, it can and will be hazardous to your health.

Be sure to wipe down the threads on that screw too. It has the oil on it also.

I had the same problem with my MarkIII Hunter. No amount of cleaning and loctite seemed to help.
Finally, one of the parts guys at Ruger told me that they had a slightly longer screws that should fix the problem.
He sent me one and I have not had the problem since I installed it.

Thanks for that info. I've not had any that wouldn't take either with a dab of Locktite or some ladies fingernail polish, after a good degreasing of course. However a longer screw would provide a greater surface area to hold the sight. BTW the front barrel screw hole is #6-40, just in case someone has a hardware store near by that sells screws by individual/bulk instead of packaged lots.
