Ruger Firing Pin Stop Pin

I've always been mindful of the Ruger manuals warning about checking for the presence of the firing pin stop pin when you remove the bolt. I've never seen one fall out until today. I was giving my MKIII Hunter and MKII GC a thorough cleaning and heard a little pop on the work bench. The stop pin from the Hunter bolt had fallen out, shortly followed by the rebound spring and retainer. There was a fair amount of crud in the bolt that I suppose was holding the pin in. I'm glad I was holding the bolt over the work bench and over a paper towel at the time.
The pin was the solid type pin. Do the roll pins fit tighter?

The roll pins do fit tighter into the firing pin stop hole.

Then they might be worth replacing if I can get them. Usually when I lose a part like that, it takes a dive under the workbench.

Call Ruger they'll send you one or two.

Ruger's standard replacement is a solid pin, I've ordered and gotten one. I like it better, as it is simple to access the firing pin/rebound spring. You can get an identical roll pin from a good hardware store, if you still want that.
Simple tip: Ruger wants a dollar for the solid pin, and these days there is a six week backlog on parts. This pin is easy to make, from 1/8" stainless rod. Cut a piece about 3/4" long, and round the ends well, to end up with about 11/16" length. The rounded ends prevent any possibility of scarring the inside of the receiver. Ruger's is well rounded.
If your vise and tools are handy, you can make one in about 20 minutes. And a $2 piece of rod will make about 10-11 of these, or other pins. The sear pivot is 1/8 rod, too, I think.

Glad this popped up again. I made a couple of calls to Ruger with no answer and then allowed it to go down the memory hole. Will go out and look for the rod.

Rolled pins are cheap and do fit tighter. You can get them at Lowes, Home Depot and most all hardware stores. Take a sample and a Mic or Caliper.
