Went to the Gun Shop this morning....was all set to purchase a Mark III Hunter but after holding both the 6 7/8" Hunter Model and the Mark III 5 1/2 " Stainless Steel Target Model, I bought the 512 Target. It just felt right in my hand and I liked the way it balanced compared to the Hunter.
Took it out in the back yard and put 300 rounds of Federal Bulk ammo through it " Flawless " the trigger felt quite good, very little take-up and a nice crisp break. Wasn't even concernend about sighting -in or accuracy with 20 degree temp and standing in 10" of snow but right out of the box it was hitting point of aim at 20 yards and grouping. I'm sure it will group 1 inch or less at 25 yards, once I can get my 4 inch wobble under control The fit and finish is excellent no milling marks , scratches, ect. A very nice looking hand-gun with the Stainless Steel frame and Black grips. For 379.00$ I'm very pleased with my purchase it's built to last and I'm sure my Grandsons will be shooting it long after I'm gone. Way to go Ruger !!!!

I think an early diagnosis of 'Ruger-itis' is in order...
you mentioned the plural form of 'grandson'...
and you wouldn't want to begin some family feud ...
so, you must consider an alternative model for each...

not to worry, 'Ruger-itis' has the same cure
as the much older "Marlin-itis"...

personally, I think a Marlin-39a (or 981T) would be in-order...
then when they visit, you could give some lessons
and see how they do with the semi-auto-pistol -vs- the rifle ...

Congrats, I feel the same way about the feel and balance of a 5 1/2" bull barreled Ruger.

Dr. Greener at your service. Ruger-itis may not be curable. You can suppress it, sort of like malaria. Just take two of these and call me in the morning.



Two grandsons? Sounds like you may need a prescription for a Marlin. Serious cases may also need the single six treatment.

I'm sure all three of you kids will enjoy the 5.5".

Congrats on your new pistol! Ruger pistols are a great way to teach your Grandsons how to handle a firearm safely and the basics of marksmanship. Not to mention the memories they will always carry of quality time spent with their Grandpa!

The balance of the steel frame gun should be just about right, I have 2 512's in the 22/45 and find them to balance just slightly muzzle heavy compared to a full size 1911, all guns loaded of course.
