Extended front sight on MKIII?

Post by melchloboo » Wed Nov 26, 2008 6:14 pm

How to do it? I have not seen any products anywhere to replace the front sight on my 5.5"BB. Would it be possible to mount a with the existing screws?
Thanks!

Anything is possible with the right tools. I'd take a bull barrel sight base, mill off the front blade. Then I'd mill a dovetail down the centerline from the front. Cut an extended front sight and install in into the dovetail slot. The only question is why? They make a longer barreled Ruger 22 Auto, the 678 has plenty of sight distance. Sounds like good justification to buy another Ruger to me. Making an extended front sight as a prototype for your Ruger wouldn't be cheap.

I would try to get a 7" m41 (or a 5" with site extender) instead, hence the question about the muzzle brake.

I guess another option is the vq muzzle thingy, it adds an inch or so...

Your other option would be a Paclite upper. I like Bullseye's idea of using it as a "reason" to buy another Ruger.

Ah yes, I forgot about the Pac-lites. But finding one cheap enough to justify the difference between a new ruger might be a trick.
