I am looking to fit my MKIII 678GC with a red dot scope. 2 rigs I am considering:
UltraDot Red Dot Sight
30mm Tube 1x 4 MOA Dot
with Weaver-Style Rings Silver
$139
or
Millett Red Dot Sight
30mm Tube 1x Variable Sized Dot (3, 5, 8, 10 MOA)
with Weaver-Style Rings Silver
$89.99
Just looking to target shoot/plink from distances beyond what's possible with open sights.
Any suggestions, comments or alternatives would be really apprecicated

Both of those are excellent choices for your Ruger. You will be happy with either brand.

Bullseye, I appreciate your comments and also this forum... it's a great resource; thanks for all your time/effort in it's upkeep!!!
I'm not overly price sensitive if it's money well spent- do you believe the ultradot is worth the extra 50 bucks?

I have never owned an UltraDot but I have the same millet you listed and really like it.
I have it mounted on a S&W 617 revolver and it is really a good red dot. I like the different dot sizes, I brighter conditions I just go to a larger dot size and a little more brightness and it works great.

The Millett dot scope has a good reputation for reliability and durability. The Ultra Dot is a high quality scope that can take a pounding and function flawlessly. I have several and I use them on my .45s, not a one has ever let me down.

Of the two choices I would go with the Millet to get the dot size choice, I have one and it is very nice and holds zero at $89. To really compare to the Ultra Dot you ned to consider the Ultra Match Dot @ $189 which offers the different dot size. The Ultra Dots have an excellent Life Time Warranty, so only you can decide if it is worth an extra $100. Regards

I have a MarkIII 67/8"bbl Hunter,I have a Bushnell Red/Green Dot installed using Leupold WQR rings.I also have a 2x Weaver Pistol scope that mounts to the Mark III the same way.It is fun switching between scopes to see which is more accurate.Bushnell indoors/Weaver outdoors.

I have not used the Millet brand dot sights but do own 2 Ultra Dots - One is a 30mm and the other is the 25mm model. Both are great and hold their zero plus Ultra Dots carries a lifetime warranty. Here is a link that convinced me to go with the Ultra Dots:

What an informative post Ops Mgr.. thank you very much.
I ended up going with a 25mm 3 MOA Millet for $62 on sale from Midway USA:

I put this question up on a number of forums... easily got the best responses here at Bullseye's Guntalk.
Thanks to everyone who's posted opinions and information!!!!

3 moa should be just about perfect and do well for serious target work and a lot of fun plinking. Regards
