Slingshot Question on MKIII 22/45

The information gained from this forum is great. Performed my first detailed Stripping and Reassembly and it went great. Decided to perform the Slingshot modification but when you pull the bolt back with mag in and it locks open and then you drop the mag and then try to slingshot the bolt the bolt latch does not drop freely. The detent and spring have been removed and the bolt latch free but not fee enough for gravity to do its thing. Any suggestions?

The slingshot mod was my idea a few yewars go, it is meant to be used to load the first round from a mag, I have all MarkII's a MarkIII may work justa little different.

If it is a new pistol and the bolt latching parts have not been removed and cleaned, then you may be getting a hang up from the thick preservative oil. The oil gets thicker and attracts grit over time. When you pull the bolt back without a mag installed, and the detent ball removed, then the bolt stop should drop just by gravity.

I had the same problem at first but a little bit of remington dry-lube on the bolt stop helped it glide against the frame. I've never had to re-lube, its now broken in I guess.

When I did the mod I stoned the flat portion of the slide release to remove the sharp burrs caused by the stamping dies. I tested the "drop" of the slide release in the grip housing before I reassembled the gun. When it flopped down with no resistance I knew I was good to go.

That is the method I used when I did the first one, smooth out all of the edges and it will work great. To lock the bolt back, just invert the pistol and pull the bolt bac, easier thatn using the le=er ef?
