Had a little of that today, but they were doing .45 ACP and 9mm and they didn't reload. :)

Now if I could find someone to blast through a couple hundred rounds for .45 colt and throw the brass away. :D

S/D practice is a fun thing too, or used to be when I belonged to the now defunct indoor range nearby. They had a target program that stopped the target I believe 6 times at different distances and opened for 2 seconds. I always used 1/2 size silhouettes and shot my carry guns from a low ready, 2 or 3 shots each time it stopped, reloading when it edged out and move. Great fun and good practice to put all shots to COM or 2 and 1. Sure do miss that place, closed because of lack of enough business to keep it operating, but was a great range.

Completely off-topic question:
How does doggy hearing respond to shooting? Does Bear just back off based on comfort, or does he hang close and ignore it?

Shooting has never really bothered him. Ten years ago this coming March he will have been my shooting buddy for all kinds of guns. Used to shoot skeet and sporting clays until I had some retina damage in the center of my right eye. I those days we normally shot 250 to 500 shotgun rounds a week and usually in a group and Bear was always there, jus doing his doggie things. At the range he just kicks back and keeps an eye on me, occasionally runs over to the grassy area off to the side and rolls on his back and kicks his feet in the air. Most shooting does not even seem to phase him and from his actions around the house it has not seemed to effect his hearing although his attention paying is not always the best. The only shots that I have ever seen are the very high velocity rifles, with the sharp cracking report. Rimfire and most any handgun does not phase him.

We are very lucky in my rural county. Our county sportsman's association owns a big, old metal building out in the sticks that serves as a 50-foot range restricted to .45 ACP or lower handgun calibers and no centerfire rifles. It is open to members 24 hours a day with 10 shooting positions.

The fee for membership was just raised to $30 a year, which also includes free use of an outdoor 100-yard range.

On a typical weekday, you have the place to yourself or maybe to share with one other shooter.

Heaven.

Wow! Today I went to the range and got 2 hot 45 shells down my shirt right in a row. I jumped back and they rolled down my shirt and one of the two went into my pants!!!

I must've been hit in the head 8 or 9 more times over the next hour with those 45 shells.

I couldn't believe the guy didn't pick up a single shell to reload! I almost grabbed some of them, but the place was closing for a CCW class, and I didn't want to make a putz out of myself.

I've done the hot-casing two step a couple of times.

I probably would have stayed around to police some brass. Keeps the range looking clean and my drill sergeant made me do long, long ago.

I've done the "hot case boogie" a few times myself. Usually it's the folks to my right who do the jumping because my ball gun tends to throw cases on the shooter next to me. More than a few times someone's mentioned my cases bouncing off of their pistol during a sustained fire string - I just shrug and smile - it's all part of the game. 8)

Get the hot case thing a lot but usually do it to myself. Shoot a rifle left handed to to a right eye vision problem, the 10/22's pitch hot brass that will stick to your skin and leave burn marks, get lot of them on the forearm and every now and then one down the front of the shirt. 22LR being thin gets extremely ho. Shoot the handguns two handed but rigtht handed and left eyed, I am not a one handed bullseye shooter, jus no interested in it, Shooting my Micro the .45 rounds will eject and catch me near the top f the head and right between the eyes, a cap is required for this or the V10 as it does pretty much the same. The Micro and the V10 are my normal carry guns and are shot point and shoot and not aiming as that is the way the will be used if needed. All shot double tap and you can cover them with your hand, that should get the job done.

I have done the brass 2 step too, I have a little 380 that throws brass on top you head. And at times it will get down your shirt. I forgot to bring a hat one time and one landed between by glasses and eyes, that was not very fun.

I have a KelTec P3AT, my left hand gun, don't shoot it much. Every few months a couple of mags full, just to make sure it still runs, nasty to shoot but it will get it's intended job done.

One of these days you guys are going to meet someone with a pistol that throws barss to the left and get a nasty surprise.

My Walther P.1 is designed to throw brass left, and with a bit of a tilt, it will fan from 9 o'clock to 10 o'clock nicely. I generally take it to any indoor range just in case I end up with the left-most spot.

It would be interesting to see high-speed footage of extraction/ejection in various pistols.
Anyone know of such a video? I've seen a few interspersed with HS footage of impacts, but never any focusing on the extract/eject mechanism.

The P22 throws brass up and back. Fun having it bounce off your glasses or down the shirt.
