Ruger MKIII Doubling ??
I was at the range today with my MKIII shooting federal bulk ammo. All was well and then I experienced one incidence of double firing on a single trigger pull. This pistol has been enhanced with VQ trigger & sear.... I have probably put 3000 rounds through her since the trigger job and this is the 1st time I've experience doubling
My gunsmith did the trigger work.... can this sort of thing be a one off with low risk of safety implications or do I need re-visit the gunsmith?

Since you had this work done professionally, you should revisit the smith. This is definitely a major safety issue. If he didn't use the VQ replacement parts and stoned the OEM components, then your engagement angles are likely insufficient. As long as the disconnector is functioning properly, you can only double by the hammer slipping off of the sear face.
If he did use VQ parts then there may be an incompatibility between the engagement angles of the drop in components and you can contact Nic at VQ and get some replacements. This has happened with VQ parts once or twice in the past and they will send you new parts right away. Nic will want the retrogrades so he can do a quality investigation and ensure that this is not a wider problem for his parts.

I have the triggers on my MarkII's set pretty close, once in a great while I will get a double tap, but I know it is me that just took the slack out too fast and inadvertently did it. I have done the same with my 10/22's, I just like sensitive triggers I guess.
Are you sure it was the gun and not the operator????

If it does it again try and think out what happened, if it does it consistently it is a problem. If this is the first time and you have a lot of rounds through it, may just be shooter error. It happens to me every once in a while as there is not much play in my triggers, and it has happened with different guns also. Have 4-10/22's and the same in 22/45's. Hey! stuff happens.pawn wrote:No Sir, not 100% sure, that is a good point.... my trigger is set pretty close as well.

Double shots.
I have experienced this before with my High Standard .22 and my Colt .45ACP.
I noticed that this happens when I do not clean the pistols after firing thousands of rounds through them. After a good cleaning the problem disappears.
Since I do not like cleaning. When the pistols start to double tap after only a single trigger squeeze, that is when I clean them. Hope this helps.

Re: Double shots.
Sounds like you clean like I do as long as they ain't broke they don't need fixing. When I have a problem I clean if it's working it's good. When I clean my carry guns, I will normally go to the range and fire a couple of mags and if everything is working that is the way they stay.PISTOLERO wrote:I have experienced this before with my High Standard .22 and my Colt .45ACP.

Too lazy to clean.
I found this to be the best indicator of when it is time to clean. When you own more than one firearm is too much work to clean and clean.
