Mk III 22/45 - Hammer Pin - Frame Damage

Post by itsjustbob » Sun Oct 05, 2008 6:02 pm

Hello to all. I am a fairly new member to this forum and have enjoyed reading the various posts and answers. I have especially appreciated the help with assembly /disassembly from Bullseye.

I recently purchased a used Mk III 22/45 several months ago. I have had mixed success with it at the firing range. Sometimes it fires perfectly and other times it seems like it gives me nothing but problems. I believe the problems are related to the hammer pin and damage to the frame. I saw the posts for calling ruger for getting a replacement pin and I followed up on this. I have the replacement pin in place. (I will agree that their customer service is top notch.)

What I have not been able to find on this forum is what to do if there is damage to the frame caused by this pin. Will Ruger replace or repair the frame since it is a result of a design flaw on their part? Or if not, does anyone have recommendations on how to repair the frame?

My frame appears to have some internal damage on the right hammer pin hole. I was wondering if there is some type of epoxy that could be applied to repair or reinforce the damaged area, or if there is a bushing available that will reinforce the hole.

Thanks for all of your help.

There is no repair material that I'm aware of for these polymer frames. There have been plenty that have torn out on the left side due to pin walking but not on the right. If your hammer pivot pin is not staying put, then you need some repairs and the factory is the only place to get it right. That pin hole is a high stress area. You should contact Ruger about your frame damage.

For other interested individuals with this problem, Ruger will repair damage to your frame caused by the hammer pin FREE of charge. (You pay for shipping though.) I shipped my MkIII last week. They said it should be a 3-4 week turn around time.

I knew they'd take care of you. They'll inspect the frame damage and if it's bad enough, they'll replace the frame for you. By the time their done, you'll have a practically new pistol. They have good customer support, even if you're not the original purchaser of their product.
