Model 41 Factory Trigger Pull
What is the trigger weight set at the factory? I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but it seems heavier than my High Standard 107's 2.5 lbs. I'm the original owner (bought in 1986), so I know it hasn't been changed. The serial number (*******) says gun was built in 1984.
The factory trigger can be set anywhere from 2-3 lbs, depending where the adjuster bar is positioned within the frame. You can see more about adjusting the M-41's trigger weight here http://www.guntalk-online.com/Model41ma ... trigadjust

Look at the little slide adjuster lever, each step represents 1/4 lb. If it is set in the middle then that is 2.5 lbs. If it is set on either end, then depending on where the trigger pivot pin sits its either 2 or 3 lbs. If you test the trigger weight and it is higher than 3 lbs., you may have something dragging on your trigger bar. On some pistols the slide can drag on this part, causing a higher than normal pull weight. A close inspection of the slide and the trigger bar can reveal where the friction may be, as these are a blued parts and any drag typically results in a shiny spot or wear in the bluing.

Sounds like the adjuster is set right in the middle of the slide lever. Two pounds and eight ounces is exactly 2.5 lbs trigger weight, so your home made milk jug scale is pretty close. Your adjuster currently should look a lot like this one.

In order to lighten the pull, you want the slide lever forward, and move it towards the muzzle. That means the more steps toward the muzzle, the lighter the pull. Like this picture.

Two pounds is the legal limit for a legal NRA Rimfire Conventional Pistol (Bullseye Pistol)
Hope this helps.
