Ruger MK I pistol
Does anyone make an aftermarket grip something along the line of a S&W 41 grip? One with a thumb rest and made of rubber would be fine.
In order to answer this question better I need to know what year your Mark I was manufactured. If it is a post 1971 model, then it has a A-100 frame. The later frame has the grip screw holes in the same place as a Mark II and the magazine follower button operates on the left side of the magazine. The grips for a Mark II will fit the A-100 frame. If it is an earlier Pre-1972 model or A-59 frame, then replacement grips are a little harder to find. Ruger has a serial number to manufacturing year chart on their official website.
A rubberized Hogue monogrip with thumbrest will fit the A-100 Mark I. Some of these grips even come with a plastic spacer for keeping the pivot pins secure under the cut outs for the bolt stop components.

And there-in lies the problem, there's just not many aftermarket grips out on the commercial market for the older Mark I's. There's not enough of a customer base for the manufacturers to keep these available. You may find some at an old time gun shop, one were the owner stores parts like a pack rat. Or possibly find some old Mark I grips on an auction site.
