MKII ejector hitting mag

Post by smoky14 » Fri Apr 25, 2008 12:07 pm

The ejector on my MKII is slightly loose and rests on the mag feed lip, enough to leave a slight mark. I have started to have stove pipe problems as explained on a MKIII post.
Before I start removing metal from the mag I must ask, "should the ejector be loose" and if so how much is too much. Mine has a slight movment. Can it be tightened in the field or must it go back?

Thanks for the help and I must say how much I enjoy reading this forum, I've learned so much.

The ejector is not supposed to be loose. But that having been said, a little loose typically won't make a difference. Your situation where the ejector is loose enough to contact the mag lips is more than a little loose. The ejector is mounted to the receiver by a rivet. That rivet is bucked (fastened) by a special jig that slides into the receiver and keeps everything secure as the rivet is being peened. You could remove the receiver and bolt then add a few drops of Locktite sealant (271 Red) under the ejector. I'd flip the receiver upside down and let the sealant cure overnite or 24 hours before installing anything into the receiver. If you install the bolt too soon you risk fastening it in the receiver tube from wicking.

Never thought of locktite, I'll give it a try.
I noticed after playing with the mags that if I push the front of the mag forward thus down that the clearance at the ejector becomes sufficient.
I'm thinking of welding a spot on the rear face of the mag, up high, to better position the mag in the well. What do you think of that idea?
