Winchester Dya-point vs x-pert
Greetings-
In the past I have used the Winchester Dyna-points with great success. I use to buy them at wally world. Was there recently, no more Dyna-points but carried the x-pert, so thats what I bought.
On the old board we had a survey by the group of what people used and liked and disliked. The only thing I remember was stay away from Remmington.
Any input on the .22 LR ammo would be appreciated - Thanks

welcome to the forum.
1. I haven't seen 'Dyna-Pts' in .22LR for a couple years, now.
(I think WMT regularly has them in .22wmr )
2. My experience, too, is to avoid "Rem", especially 'ThunderBlats'
3. I have really good luck with CCI, Federal
and Aguila ( Mex, with Eley-primer)
I probably shoot more Fed#510 'Champions' than all other .22LR combined.
as they are Cheap-as-Bulk ... or close-enough.
What FireArm(s) are you shooting?
whatever shoots reliably and accurately and cleanly for you
should be a 'keeper' and ignore all this advice.
Good Luck and have a happy/safe holiday.

I still see Dynapoints in Kmarts but not many of those department stores carry ammunition anymore. About six months ago, my 22 stocks were running low so I priced some Dynapoints at a Kmart that still carries ammunition and hunting supplies. The cost per 500 had almost doubled. They were running $12.99 per bulk box of 500, and at last check that same box was up to $21.99. I went to Wally's and bought some of the Federal Bulk 550 (now in a maroon topped box) and they shoot just as well as the Dynapoints for just $10 per box. I can shoot twice as much Federal for the same price as Dynapoints. It functions well, and is good practice ammo for me.
CCI-SV is another brand that works well in a wide variety of my 22 firearms. Try some different brands and find what works well in yours and then stock up.

When Winchester moved their plant for cheaper labor considerations the Win Dynapoints fell out of Wally's system.
I've been on a 18 mos quest to get a local wally to re-stock them. It's not unlike pulling teeth.
After doing almost everything but drawing them a picture...still no DP's.
However I'm told that if they ever show up as they have in various wally's around the country...they'll be 14.99/brick rather than the 10.00 I was paying.
So much for cheap labor and BS excuses!
I've been a Fed Bulk fan for over ten years. It's great all purpose ammo!
Remington is awfully dirty so I avoid it.
It's also inconsistent. If you record several rounds it will produce different tones which upon playback can produce Christmas carols!

I used to shoot Winchester T-22 with good results but back around 1990 they changed their manufacturing process and T-22's went down hill. Many duds in a box of 100 made it difficult to stick with that ammo. Winchester Xperts haven't worked real well for me either. I did find a few Walmarts that carried the bulk pack Dynapoints but the last time I got some was a few years ago. A trip back to one of those stores, on a shooting road trip, revealed they didn't carry the brand anymore.

Thought I post a picture of my two most favorite pistols that I'm blessed to own. The one on right is an older Blackhawk, one on left a special Olympic, gold accent Redhawk MK11. Neither are safe queens-I'm like the Old Man; there just like tools, give em care and they will take care of you.

I owe a dept of Gratitude to Bullseye and all the others that fed me wisdom the last few years even tho I wasn't a fledged member. With that it gave me knowledge and courage to take on the MK11. Thanks guys!
Both pistols have trigger jobs and internal upgrades making them sweet to shoot. Did all the fun work myself, just loved feeling the difference of what you could do to one of these compared to stock configuration. To think-I almost bought a book for field strip. Thanks for having me.

P.S. Silicone left too long on bullets, makes duds...Hmmmmmmm

I heard that the plant-move/equipment got caught in Hurricane-Katrina...
and the DoD-demand for ammo put a kink in their facilities/plans...
did you hear anything about that story?
or was it just another 'tale'... ?
I still have about 3 'boxes' of .22LR DPt, but just saving them
since there no longer avail... take care.
ps: nice photos of the Left-Coast territory...
what? no photos of Death-Valley, Mojave, China Lake, S.SanJaquin ??
I never got sent to the scenic-sites (well, Venice-Beach had some "views"),
just the dirt, no water/ trees/ harmless-animals...

Toyfj40,
I honestly believe that was a myth about Katrina and the "war needs"
DP's were/are a hot item on many of the gun sites. WIN knows it.
Some metals have increased in price due to the new world demand and the same supply.
Win stuff is still available but at slightly higher prices for most. The DP's were a Kmart deal originally...then they were a wally world deal when K-Mart caved on the gun /ammo stuff.
There was also a marketing gimmick to provide the same ammo in a different box called "Value-Pak" Bass Pro and local shops carried it this way.
As sophisticated as WW's computer central ordering is, it can be derailed rather easily once the product is deleted due to a manufactures inability to provide product..even for a rather short time.
On the pics...So Cal is like the dark side of the moon from where I am.
I can't say I've ever been to the places you mentioned other than the SJ Valley. Big state when you think of it.
BTW, most of the places shown in the other thread are either from our yard or within 8-10 miles.
